problem With BSNL Internet connection

#31
thanx whylately....
today morning its working fine...but manytimes it goes bad...i did ping as u said just now..the result is
ping traderji.com
min=383, max=390, avg=388

and for tracert traderji.com
it took 16 hops ...

does it convey anything .......
regards
harsh
The results look good. It is when there is a problem that ping may indicate dropped packets and traceroute would show the particular hop(s) where the problem lies. When the market watch freezes, ping/tracert the data server. Compare to values when working well to narrow down the problem. Could be BSNL DataOne, could be something else.

ok....whylately....two question....
1) which is more better : is it the maximum round trip in milliseconds less or more ?
2) how to detect any flaw in hops ...as in above eg..is hops ok...

thank you

ping measures the time for a packet to go from your computer to the server and return. The lesser the average time, the better. A 400 ms average is OK for your BSNL connection. You will observe change in this value depending on time of day. For example, between 9 and 10:30 am, when offices start in India, the load on the network is larger and the ping times will be larger. Expect a value below 500ms for most servers. The fastest would be given by 'ping 127.0.0.1' which is the time from your computer to your computer.

Equally important from ping, is the number of packets lost. Like in trading, the percentage and size of losses significantly affect overall result.

tracert show the number and times of hops or intermediate points (routers) between your computer and the server. The number of hops is not so important but expect it to be less than 25 for most servers. From the times, you can determine which intermediate points are slow or have problems.

Potential packet loss situations will show in tracert as:
1 87 ms 93 ms * 59.95.232.1
The * in the line indicates loss in the line between your computer and the BSNL first router. You are probably from Delhi or Ahmedabad (guessing), the time values are high and probably indicates that your telephone line is noisy, too long, has multiple phones attached to it, the jacks have oxidised or have a bad contact. Repeat tracert to verify this (or ping 59.95.232.1 the IP that shows in the first hop).

Or it may show as:
7 * * * Request timed out.
The hop where this occurs indicates if the problem is within BSNL, VSNL gateway, the international peer point, other networks (e.g. SprintLink), or the server.

Sorry about the winding answer but if you use ping and tracert with various sites, it begins to make sense.

Use following dns server ip

208.67.222.222
208.67.222.220

These are openDns.com dns server ips. Quite reliable and fast. register at the website to get additional advantage.

750UL bb plan suffers from low bandwidth as this particular port would have many subscribers attached thereby reducing available bandwidth. This results in dropped packets and poor response. Better to go for 512 Kbps UL plan.

Your tracert and ping stat are ok.

I have problem when I try to login to angel anywhere in my laptop. It works OK in my PC. In my laptop when I try to login to angel anywhere, the program hangs. Further I have also observed that no internet connection is possible after trying to login to that angel anywhere. I get looking at ..... Then it says site is not reachable. But before that it is OK to connect to any site. Unfortunately with same internet connection it happens in my laptop, not in my PC. How to proceed further to diagnose and eliminate problem in my laptop.

I don't know what is causing this problem. After I try to login to trade anywhere, I am unable to ping even router 192.168.1.1. I get msg timed out. If I reboot, then it is OK. But it doesn't happen in my PC. I have completely uninstalled and registry cleaned and deleted install folder and reinstalled trade anywhere. still the problem persists in my laptop.

Locate the Applications that are running only in laptop but not in PC. That may give some idea.

Now I remember.....Google Tool Bar was giving some problems to me. Removed it, problems vanished.

BTW, is it Vista or XP

Cheers

Go to Windows Firewall and add Trade anywhere to the list of exceptions.
