First and foremost, let me congratuate you for the awesome effort you've put into sharing your knowledge and work.

I'm quite new to the technical analysis area (1 week to be precise). But I have progressed a good deal thanks to your documentation and this forum.

I have got Amibroker working on my system and uploaded some NSE data using the Amibroker update tool.

I also have spent a bit of time on your AFLs. I have been a developer for the past 15 years ; so that was relatively simple especially with your brilliant documentation.

Now, I spend a lot of time travelling by train and I have been thinking if this was possible :

1. I believe you have currently optimized your AFL using 70% of the candle to trigger a buy and 0% above to trigger a sell.

2. I was planning on working on creating a report / chart by analysing data over the past, say 5 years, for various ratio pairs

e.g. (70,0) (this is your pair)
(70,5), (70,-5)
(65,5), (65,-5) etc

3. For each pair, I would like to write an AFL to plot the accumulated profit per scrip over a period

4. So, basically, for each scrip, I would have graphs of accumulated profits for each pair perhaps with some other graphs SMA, EMA etc to indicate if it was possible to predict which pair would work best

Do you think this is a good idea and have you already done some work on this.

I plan to work on this AFL the coming few days and hope to get some guidance in case I need some help on functions

Hi Harold,

I wish you a successful trading experience. Glad to know that you are trying to do backtest on the AFL. I have not done the backtest as detailed as you are planning to do. The 70% was worked out by just scanning through the charts of various scrips at various times from 2004 onwards. As you are planning to do it more systematically, it will be a very useful excercise. You can always put your questions here and I will try to answer them as much as possible to the best of my ability.

For the pair of values you are trying to test, it is not necessary to rewrite the AFL. Just tweaking a couple of lines will do and you can test any pair of values.

Thanks Raj. I have not completed the new AFL and these signals are not generated by that. These are still generated by the earlier 'Single MA' AFL, but I do take a look at the generated triggers with the new AFL. If you have run the AFL yourself you may observe that I am not posting all the triggers from the 'Single MA' AFL. Some are witheld as the other AFL does not support them. This is true especially in whipsaws range.

I have put the new AFL a bit in the background as I am trying to improve the Updater AFL. In the modified version the Updater AFL can take the Buy Date, Buy Price, Target, SL etc and give an updated output which includes P/L, Target Reached, SL Reached etc.

The earlier AFL was made with a specific purpose of updating Savant's triggers for a particular day. So, it takes only a fixed buy date and generates updated values. Therefore, it is necessary to run it separately on each group of stocks purchased on the same day. The new version will take any date of buying and therefore works on all triggers in a single run.

The new AFL is a general one and therefore applicable to any set of stocks. In fact, it can be used to update any portfoio at the end of every day. I am in the final stages of checking it and would be posting it shortly.
