Thanks Kaly422000 for your comments and your concerns for others when it comes to free software and even to paid onces. :thumb:

To avoid certain traps before we install any kind of new software we always do follow certain rules:

- Set a recovery date/point in our system before installing any new software.
- We also do inform our self about how deep the installed software we want to install goes into our systems.
- We even have to be aware how we can remove new installed software from our system in case we did make any mistake when installing it.

If we follow those simple rules at all the time in a disciplined manner at all the times, even they take some time before we install any software on our systems, we will have less problems with any software (if now free or paid) as we know in most cases how to act in case it went wrong.

If you did follow my previous posts, you know that we even can do a virtual system on our basic system and test there what ever we want to test.

Now to test the next level, VPN is the topic and VPN we even can use for our virtual box to connect with the net.

Take care and have a nice weekend / Dan :)
i was interested about virtual machine ,in jist what are the prereqist for virtual machine. i have win7 ultimate 32 bit. i think one window update(i didnt remember that) is mandetory apart from virtual machine software. sorry i have actually very little or no knowledge about virtual machine. and yes i skipped ur previous post about virtual machine. any way to remove any installed software(another method) apart from good uninstaller(eg revo) ,we have to delete remaining registry entry but before that sud take a backup of that registry by exporting that registry in any folder.

Very important. For creating a system restore point, (try it with an experienced user to learn it), right click on "My computer", then click on "Properties".

Then click on "System protection" (in the LHS panel).

You will see a screen like this, but do not click on anything unless you are an experienced user or you may end up doing some damage :). You are supposed to click on "Create", but get someone to show it to you first.

yes system restore saved me many times from formatting or even some infection of adware. i think(not confident) infection may also be removed by system restore. apart from system restore configaration, u sud have to apply system restore from repair option of ur instalation disk(sud have same version of window which is installed).

I just use quick restore maker to manually create restore point, not needed but handy. Unfortunately, the restore points get erased in FIFO, so we only get recent backups ...

Hi

I have done some more researches over the weekend on VPN and what can be done with it. Quit interesting tool and absolute related to the thread title.

To stay on an easy understandable level, which is also needed for me, here a nice video I found beside other stuff which I use in the mean time by my self:

How to become anonymous online (VPN, TOR & Proxy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahGejZEFpPI

In the above video you will get basic informations about three basic ways of surfing anonymously in the net. He explains and shows the different ways mentioned in the title of the link (VPN, TOR & Proxy). Guess most know "Tor", but if asked: Would you be able to explain in an easy way what the differences are between "Tor, VPN and Proxy", what would you tell?

- Proxy: http://www.justproxy.co.uk Be advised that this is UK software which is under the dictate of UK laws.
- VPN: https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_us Be advised that this is US software which is under the dictate of US laws. CyberGhost Tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/user/cyberghostvpn
- Tor Browser: https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html

Hope you enjoy the little excursions into the digital world and take care / Dan :)

Hi

Are you using an "Android Phone"? If so, you really should read the following:

Stagefright: It Only Takes One Text To Hack 950 Million Android Phones

Six critical vulnerabilities have left 95 per cent of Google GOOGL +0.65% Android phones open to an attack delivered by a simple multimedia text, a mobile security expert warned today. In some cases, where phones parse the attack code prior to the message being opened, the exploits are silent and the user would have little chance of defending their data. The vulnerabilities are said to be the worst Android flaws ever uncovered.

Joshua Drake, from Zimperium zLabs, who reported the bugs in April this year, said whilst Google has sent out patches to its partners, he believes most manufacturers have not made fixes available to protect their customers. “All devices should be assumed to be vulnerable,” Drake, vice president of platform research and exploitation at Zimperium, told FORBES. He believes as many as 950 million Android phones could be affected, going on figures suggesting there are just over 1 billion in use. Only Android phones below version 2.2 are not affected, he added.

Hi

Windows 10 is in the pipeline and can be downloaded and installed. But not all do get it for free, depending on the version you run now. If you still run XP, you have first to upgrade to 7 and then you can do the W 10 installation. If you run a W 8.1 Enterprise edition, you also will face problems to download W 10 through update.

Here some very important links related to the topic:

Here a little update on the above post:

How to Change Your Default Browser in Windows 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEUekKqLJ-E

Further: If you want you also can go for Windows 10 Enterprise evaluation (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-10-enterprise). If you already run W 8.1 Enterprise you may do best with that way.

Windows 10 Enterprise builds on the strong foundation of Windows 10 Pro, adding premium features designed to address the needs of larger organizations, including your enterprise or higher education institution. It provides advanced protection against modern security threats, full flexibility of deployment, updating and support options, and comprehensive infrastructure, device, and app management capabilities.

To download the "W10 Enterprise iso" you must log into any Windows account and then you are able to do so with even your needed language. Over here it took a few minutes to download the 3.5 GB iso. I did not install it until now instead I will wait a while so that the first problems already will be solved with patches.

Take care / Dan :)

Hi

In post 317 I spoke about "Stagefright: It Only Takes One Text To Hack 950 Million Android Phones" and I recommended users of Android Phones to read about it. In the mean time it has become public about the next, dangerous vulnerability in Android. This time it is in the mediaserver component, which is responsible for handling open media files. If you want to know more about it, here the link: http://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlab...s-not-the-only-attack-vector-for-stagefright/ but before spending to much time in this link, just read on here:

Now what to do as an owner of such a Phone? Most will run there Android Phones with pre installed OS, which is in this case open source software, but not up today any more as there is no automatic patch for those vulnerabilities for there specific phones. What is meant with this?

Most simple explained: Sure some will work on the open source software to improve it, but there are so many different hardware systems (Producers of the phones by it self) who use the open source software (OS) on it, that each one of those producers from the hardware systems would need to make any update which then would be compatible with the updated open source software. Now this will most probably not happen in this case as the industry shows no real interest to do so. So how to move on?

Here a solution which is named "CyanogenMod" and does not have this vulnerabilities.

You now may ask: What the heck is this? In the following links you will find all the answers, even how to install it on your Android Phone if you want. :)

If you have never heard of CyanogenMod before, then you must have never been really interested in modifying your stock Android smartphone. That is okay – few people really bother, but the ones that do choose to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes are in for quite a treat.

You see, the Android platform is open source – it was made to be tinkered with, optimized, and redistributed freely. Unfortunately, carriers do not think the same way and have long imposed certain restrictions upon the smartphones that they sell. Sure enough, the tireless hoards of Android enthusiasts have already found workarounds to these restrictions, and obtaining absolute access to an Android device is now possible through a process called rooting.
