Cyber Security

Hi

After the "Haking-Team leak" it is clear that "Adobe Flash" player was one of the tools used from them. Here you can check which version is running or needed for your system: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if you do not have this newest version do update NOW.

Mozilla will block "Flash" as it values it absolute unsafe: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/

Further "Java" must be updated: https://www.java.com/en/download/java8_update.jsp

and Microsoft also has a lot of new updates include one for the "Explorer".

Have a nice day / Dan :)

Dozens arrested in international crackdown on Darkode crime forum

The FBI and its counterparts in Europe, Brazil, and elsewhere have arrested more than 60 people suspected of carrying out hacking crimes associated with a secretive online forum known as Darkode, according to media reports.

Darkode, according to a post published in April 2013 by KrebsOnSecurity, has long acted as an online bazaar for criminals looking to buy and sell drive-by exploits, spam services, ransomware programs, botnet tools, and other illicit products and services. According to news organizations located in Brazil, the site has been under investigation since March by agents with the FBI, Europol, Brazil's Federal Police, and law enforcement agencies in other countries. The operation has resulted in 62 arrests in 18 countries, including Germany, the UK, Romania, Bosnia, Serbia, India, Sweden, Denmark, and Colombia, according to the reports.

Does this mean any site which uses flash player like Youtube, etc will have issues while opening with Mozilla?
If yes how to resolve this ?

I was having this issue where while playing Youtubes videos , PC suddenly froze and went blank.Yesterday I updated both Flash Player and Java.

Hi Amitrandive

No issue with Mozilla while opening "Youtube", as the browser has HTML5 included. So instead using the "Flash" plug in, the page or what so ever will run through HTML5. HTML5 any way will be the coming future standard for all browsers and "Flash" may will be gone, as it is and never was safe how ever many times they updated it.

If you want to know more about what HTML5 is, here two links:

- HTML5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5

- What Is HTML5, And How Does It Change The Way I Browse? : http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/what-i...t-change-the-way-i-browse-makeuseof-explains/

Take care and stay save in the net / Dan :)

Thanks for reply Dan !
Does this mean that we should avoid all those sites using Flash Player?
Most of the finance related sites make use of Flash player as well as Java.

No. Just do as you do normally.

The industry knows the problem and is working on solutions which are build on new technologies and software. The web masters will change the tools they use for there website and that's it.

If you want to avoid "Flash Player" or "Java" in other browsers except "Mozilla", you can use so called "Extensions or add on tools" which will block it or you configure the browsers in a way that Flash and Java not will run.

Take care / Dan :)

Hi

When downloading some files from the net or software we are not sure about how safe they are, then best we use a so called "Virtual machine" to open/test them. Now my question: Has any body here ever used any virtual machine from Microsoft as for example "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V Server 2012"?

- I did download the full exe.file (1.87 GB) for "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2" as it can be used for free. If I now open this exe.file, where will it install and what about any existing operating system on any computer?

- Will I have normal access to the existing operating system or what will happen when I restart any OS after I installed the virtual machine?

The question may sounds stupid but to me it is not just like "Sandboxie", which is a small exe.file, to install. When installing the "Hyper-V Server", I will install a huge file by which I have at the moment not the full idea how much influence it would have on any existing operating system. Or will it for example some how be like installing any Linux distribution on the main operating system, but instead the Linux distribution it will be the one I mentioned and I have free hand to choose which one should run at what time or even at the same time?

Have a nice Sunday / Dan :)

Not used any VMware from Microsoft, but I did use DeepFreeze extensively, locking C: and doing all the data storage and experiments in D:. Occassionally unlock C: to update the various system softwares from trusted sites. It turned out to be the best goddamned system protection ever, no need even for antivirus. You can install anything and it returns to its state on reboot. You can delete anything and it reboots as good as new.

Slows down the system a bit though. But great if your machine is powerful enough. Highly recommended spend of $50 for a legal copy.

Thanks TP for those information. :)

Will surely check this link http://www.faronics.com/en-uk/products/deep-freeze/enterprise/ in which are a lot of informations about your mentioned software.

In the mean time I also checked "You-Tube", which I not did before and to my surprise they have really nice videos about those specific "Hyper-V Server" from Microsoft.

Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Installation and Configuration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwuyRzAjS1I and this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxBEcXQQekA

There are many more such on line tutorials about the subject, so I found answers to my questions.

Take care / Dan :)

Cool. Hopefully we will also benefit from your experiments/experiences with these :)
