the page doesn,t open ,so how do i get data from bhavcopy pagre,secondly in my metastock continuosly a line comes dcb not conneting,please help if you can

Hi Heman,
First of all thanx a lot for this utility which u have made, its excellent wit Ami. But m facing a problem while fetching data for NSE. I`ve select a date range from 01/01/2000 to 27/03/2009. It started fetching data but suddenly stopped with some error. It has created log file n its showing below mentioned error in log file:

I will investigate the issue. Thanks for the complete details because of which I was able to analyze the issue.

I am not sure why you would want to download data from 2000 when i have all historical data available for download in a zip file on my site (see links in signature). I have data in both Metastock and Amibroker formats, download the one you need.

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply. Actually I was tryin to download data through the data downloader. I was not aware of the link. I`ll try with tht link. I hope that error details helped u to resolve the issue. One more thing I want to ask u is, is it possible to download NSE Futures data through data downloader or something like script specific through available source?? It will be more convenient for them who are lookin out for specific scripts. Plz let me know. Thanks again.

Hi,

I have seen few reports of this issue earlier, but there were just one or two users who experienced it. Unfortunately I was unable to reproduce the issue with the information they provided, hence could not fix it. This issue will only occur if you try to download data for a date about 5 to 6 years back 2000 in your case.

However I do not see most users doing it as I have provided Historical data for NSE and BSE in both Metastock and Ascii format (links in my signature) on my site. So most users would be downloading that and using getbhavcopy to update it daily.

Thanks to you I was able to reproduce the issue and have fixed it in my code. I have some minor enhancements for additional BSE indices that I want to plug in and then i can release the new version for all after testing it myself.

Is getbhav copy legal? As I understand NSE and BSE don't provide free data. They sell it... to resellers and to us. Where does getbhavcopy fit in?

My only concern is will it work reliably? Last thing anyone would want is for NSE/BSE to block it so that everyone has to pay for the data.

Hi Xaero,

Getbhavcopy is 100% legal.

Getbhavcopy downloads data from NSE and BSE exactly the same way you would do it using your internet browser.

It just automates this task so that you do not have to take the pain of downloading multiple files (freely available from NSE and BSE) from different locations and then eventually merging them using Excel so that they can be imported into the TA software for analysis.

So you do not need to do any downloading or excel processing. Getbhavcopy does that for you just with the click of a single button so that the output file can be directly imported to TA software.

Speaking of the historical data that is available on my site. That is obtained from Traderji way back in 2005 and then updating it daily using Getbhavcopy and manually adjusting for split an bonus announcements. This data according to me is legal too (I do not sell that too)

Moreover it is FREE so there is no issue of you using a pirated copy etc. making your use legal too.
