Antibiotics, stress and processed food are responsible for a lot of avoidable health problems. We've gotten used to low-fat fat which is so much different from what the ancients ate.

The thing is, fat on its own isn't unhealthy. There are phospholipids that are helpful on a cellular level and essential fats like omega-3 fatty acids keep those brain cells healthy.

There was a time when I used to pop in antibiotics like crocin at the first sign of fever. These days, I take a probiotic supplement (Lactobacillus acidophilus & Bifidobacterium bifidum) and let the body fix the ailment. You see, antibiotics destroy both the bad bacteria and good bacteria. Over time, it leads to resistance and decreased immunity, causing inflammation. Probiotics bring the balance back to gut flora and improve overall health.

Among Indians, protein and Vitamin B12 deficiency tend to be quite high. The lack of these nutrients cause fatigue, anemia and even neuro-physiological problems.

Among vegetarians, protein is often had in the form of Dal. But considering the high price, some might be tempted to skip it... Not a good idea. There are always alternative sources of vegetarian protein like Brown Rice, Quinoa, Cheese, Paneer and Spirulina (this last one is also a good source of iron).

Do not take medicines like paracetamol and pain killers. These directly affect our kidney and can damage it in long term if the dose is excess.

For Cold/Fever there is a very effective Ayurvedic medicines.

But why will you take overdose? crocin works well in managing if fever increases. Most of the time, ayurvedic medicines have not worked for me. Anyway, Fever just passes with time.

For dripping cold, for me, Eucalyptus oil works very very well - apply oil on chest and back before sleeping. I used to get it frequently before along with asthma. But daily walk / weight reduction has maybe helped.

Edit - It seems overdose is a problem. This seems decent article

pain killers will cause intestinal bleeding for sure. it must be avoided at any cost.
extreme overdose of paracetamol will lead to liver damage, but paracetamol is one of the few medicine which is safe to consume.

Received this in email. Good enough to forward :)

An interesting post received from a doctor friend...

I am so glad that an endocrinologist has taken the effort to write this Post!

RIIINNNGGGG!!!!!!!!!!
The alarm rings and the brain starts to worry:
"Its time to get up and we have consumed the whole fuel"'...............
It calls upon the first neuron it has handy to find out how much glucose is available in the blood. The response arrives on behalf of the blood: There is sugar available only enough for the next 15 to 20 minutes, that's it.

The brain, in its doubtful gesture, replies to the neuron messenger: 'Alright, go and talk to the liver to see what it has in reserve.' The liver checks its savings account and replies that the total funds will last 'for about 20 to 25 minutes'. In total there is about 290 grams of glucose, which means, it will last for about 45 minutes, during this time the brain would be praying to The Lord to see if we feel like having breakfast.

If we are in a rush or it feels unbearable to eat in the morning, the poor organ will have to put up an emergency: "Maximum alert: we are getting an economy package."

"Cortisone, dear, take out whatever you can from the muscle cells, the bone ligaments and from skin collagen".

The cortisone puts to work all the mechanisms so that the cells open up to let out proteins, just like a mom's purse opens up when buying items. These proteins pass through the liver to convert them into blood glucose. This process continues until we get back to eating.

As you can see, whoever thinks it is ok not to eat breakfast, is actually fooling himself/herself: that person is eating his/her own muscles, it is auto devouring himself/herself. Consequently, the person loses muscle tone, and a brain, which instead of occupying on intellectual functions, spends all morning activating the emergency system in order to obtain fuel and food.

How does this affect our weight?
When a person starts the day fasting, he/she starts up an energy saving strategy, because of which the metabolism reduces. The brain does not know how long the fasting will last, whether a few hours or a few days, so it takes upon the most severe restrictive measures.

Thats why if the person decides to have lunch later, the food shall be accepted as an excess, it will be deviated towards the "fat reserve" bank and the person will gain weight.

The reason behind which the muscles are the first ones to be used as fuel bank during the morning fast is because of the cortisol hormone which is predominant during the morning, stimulating the destruction of muscular proteins to convert it into glucose.

SO NOW YOU KNOW...NEVER EVER LEAVE WITHOUT BREAKFAST, YOUR BODY WILL APPRECIATE IT AND WILL COMPENSATE YOU WITH BETTER HEALTH, WHICH IS SOMETHING YOU WILL ENJOY, LIVE A LONGER AND HEALTHIER LIFE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES...BY HAVING AN *EARLY BREAKFAST*, YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY, WHICH WILL HELP YOUR MIND WORK FASTER, YOUR THOUGHTS BECOME MORE SPONTANEOUS, YOUR BODY RELAXED, WITH BETTER MOVEMENT CAPABILITIES AND LOGICALLY...YOUR STRESS WILL REDUCE.
