Ban on short selling ?? What has SEBI done so far about short delivery by the exchanges ? Need curbs on the exchanges.

Also, how come the delivery takes 2-5 days in these times of digitization ? If not instantaneous, at least the delivery should happen at EOD.
Investors leaving their position is a normal process, but others taking huge shorts is an unnatural burden on the economy. They're betting on depreciation of economy while enjoying the merits of it sweated by somebody else.

Equity shorts are only intraday positions - however large. It depends on the broker to clear them before close of the market. How come a small trader's intraday positions are squared off ??

Indian market does not allow naked short like other markets (where you borrow shares from MFs or Pension funds and sell and cover your shorts after weeks or months)

So relax, no danger to any form of patriotism.

Nothing is wrong in betting on falling economy and taking advantage of it. If only farmers were well educated in India, they could go short or long on commodity market while growing crops..

i once thought it's 'clever' to short for quick money in a correcting security.. during panic selling time, it'd be quicker money making. of course anyone can short, ours is a free country. but ask any of the owners of the listed companies... all of them would say shorting should be controlled. because they know how difficult it is to build and maintain a business, which the shorters might not even have felt in their dreams. well, making money is everyone's choice as long as it's not illegal... yeah, if it was possible, some people would have shorted during the period before 1947 also if there was NSE then.

i think if a stock is correcting from it's high due to its own negative factors, shorting can be considered okay... but the current scenario is like, while the home is ablaze, we are pouring some more oil saying "lets get some more heat" or like wanting to light the cigarette... this is just my thought, banning short or not is decision the authorities have to take..

So, how come there are instances of NSE short delivery ? Also, there is an ongoing SLB mechanism in our markets. Don't know how it works.

short delivery is when someone sell stocks but forget to cover it before market close. now he have to deliver stock to the person who bought. That's why leftover stocks goes to auction and hefty fines are to be paid for the mistake. Usually it gets cleared in a day or two. It's not naked short.

in real shorts, you go to Mutual Fund pay them say 2-3%, borrow shares from them, sell them and return back to them later period. Naked shorts is when you don't have stocks yet you sell it to someone and could sell more shares then there are tradable shares available !! Naked shorts were made illegal during 2008 crisis..
