"Acche din" for farmers..

Politicians should stop playing politics over the lives of over half a billion Indians.
National interest should take precedence over political gains. This is ridiculous! Don't politicians have any sense of patriotism?

Another farmer commits suicide..... AAP/BJP/Congress blame each other. News channels (who were filming the incident) ask why nobody could save the farmer (while they were busy with their cameras)

Meanwhile, farmers issues will remain unresolved as another wife loses her husband and children lose their father. Today, a vicious debate will rage on TV, Twitter and social media as experts will pass comments and outraged citizens will phone in. Tomorrow, life will go on as usual for all - except for the family that lost its breadwinner, while other farmers will continue to end their lives tomorrow, day after and day after that. All these will become statistics and news of their deaths will be buried in page 10 or 12..... Who really cares?
really really sad and sickening incident.. :( :(

Just makes me think about all those pro-land acquisition (at the cost of farmer's interest and agriculture) and in the name of development and progress - after all the land has been acquired from the farmers, and we get 'Acche din' and become rich with fat bank balances - wonder what will we eat - currency notes?

The rich would have to eat money if the poor did not provide food - Russian Proverb

Political parties shamelessly milking the opportunity to score points on the death of a farmer. Instead of reflecting on the reasons for what happened and how such incidents can be prevented in future, they are busy trying to milk the tragedy to get media attention. I wonder if the press/media vans were not present, how many of such people would really bother to turn for the 'protest'? All the noise will die down in a few days and we will continue to have such 'Nirbhayas' and 'Gajendra Singh's' in future as well - unfortunately.

We need more people out of farming, more big farmers who have resources to manage their 'business', better infrastructure for farming, less price control, fair land prices, more accountablility in political class.

Instead we get meaningless nautanki-dramas, no ones talking about solutions.
Congress is least intrested in farmer welfare, as their rule in maharashtra has shown. Land grabbing has been happening before, vadra ji to useme khoob age hai. Apparently most land is not used appropriately and there is no one held accountable. What will this bill change? I dont even know what exactly they are opposing just a lot of rhetoric.

i had hoped aap would be a credible alternative but all they seem to do is dharnas and nautankis. Even annaji seems to be misguided sometimes ( mamta bannerji for pm ... )

Sites like mediacrooks dot com have exposed the lies in the media on a routine basis. A report in opindia dot com/2015/04/meet-gajendra-singh-the-farmer-who-committed-suicide/ suggests that the 'suicide' may not be what it seems to be. Also, cannot understand why so many negative comments on the land acquisition bill are written here. An interesting article in rediff dot com/news/column/why-rahul-is-wrong-about-the-indian-farmer/20150423.htm and many more have explained the purpose of this bill

Badarivt,

Land acquisition is an issue that impact the voiceless farmers. Politicians, middle men, power brokers and businessmen can acquire land from farmers on the cheap. If land is acquired in a transparent and fair manner, it is welcome. But the haste with which the BJP govt. was pushing thru the process is surely not in the farmers interest. It is only after the protest from the opposition and reports in the media that the BJP amended the bill with 9 suggestions.

The question is what was the hurry to push the bill? As of now, the govt. has accepted 11 amendments to the original bill. If the original bill was well thought out, it would not have been necessary. While acquiring land for development and progress is all good, there are two sides to the coin. Even BJP allies such as Akali Dal and Shiv Sena had voiced their concern against the bill as it was originally proposed. BMS (Bharat Majdoor Sangh) and BKS (Bharatiya Kisan Sangh) which are RSS affiliates protested the bill and asked for amendments. If RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has to make a comment that 'It's not a bad bill after all the amendments made' says a lot on the bill that was initially sought to be pushed thru!

Regards to the press (owned by business houses which has its own agenda) political parties (which has its own vested interest) it is for the common and voiceless man who has to look after his own interest. Public interest and (especially that of the poor) will be a last priority for the politicians and only after their own agenda and vested interest has been taken care of!
