Check carefully before redialling on missed call......

About 3 weeks back, I had a busy day, and a lot of missed calls on my phone. I quickly glanced at all the calls that I had missed, and dialled back. One such call was from a guy, who slowly introduced himself and told me that I had won 25 lacks in lottery. I promptly disconnected, but the damage was done. I was billed Rs. 22 for the call to Pakistan, which I had made unwittingly.... The damage is more than the 22 rupee loss however. Am posting the link to the article, which is a must read.... What some people may not be aware though - That there is a call reject list on Android phones (will be true for other phones as well) Where you can just tap and hold on to the number you have received and opt to Add to the reject list.

http://www.ibtimes.co.in/missed-cal...beware-of-numbers-with-country-code-92-521253

If you receive missed international calls - originating from Pakistan - with the country code +92, do not call back, as fraudsters are lurking to dupe and rob you off all you got. A 45-year-old man from Bangalore received a missed call from telephone number +923067759190, making him wonder its origin. He was surprised to learn that it was from Pakistan.

Mobile users in India had in the past complaint of recieving fraud calls from countries like Pakistan, Sierra Leone and Belarus, forcing service providers to caution their customers from falling prey to such scams. What looks like any other missed calls in your phone could empty your bank balance if not taken precaution, as fraudsters involved in lottery scams are behind it. On returning the missed call, the person at the other end, posing as the service provider, asks for personal details, saying that the customer has won a lottery.

Besides charging exorbitant amounts for the return call, customers are in danger of paying heavily, if they call back. Fraudsters can clone SIM cards and make calls at the expense of the caller by obtaining unique electronic serial number of the phone. Swindlers can also access the caller's bank transaction details and rob off money, if they had made any financial transactions through the cell phone.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had directed telephone service providers in the past to protect the customers, pointing out the complaints regarding missed calls, originating from Pakistan (+92), Sierra Leone (+232) and Belarus (+375).

Telephone service providers, like Vodafone and Airtel, had in the past sent out advisory messages to their customers to not respond to missed calls from numbers starting with +92.

Am posting this as I received a missed call again today from another Pakistan based number, and hence writing here. This is a 'must read' Do spread the word around..... as the damage is not just limited to loss of money but that fraudsters can clone SIM cards and make calls at your expense by obtaining unique electronic serial number of the phone.

Boarding Passes Pose Serious Security Risks - Rahul Thadani (Edited excerpt)

http://blogs.quickheal.com/wp/boarding-passes-pose-serious-security-risks-for-frequent-fliers/

When was the last time you took a flight to someplace and back and then carelessly threw your boarding pass into the bin without even thinking twice? Well if you regularly follow this habit, then you will be concerned to know that every boarding pass contains a barcode that holds a lot of personal information about you and your trip. So if a hacker gets his hands on that boarding pass somehow, he can easily use that information to gain your personal details and subsequently misuse them.

So what information does a barcoded boarding pass contain?

• Name
• Phone number
• Email address
• Frequent flier number
• Information about all future flights from that account
• Linked access to email accounts
• Linked access to card details or financial accounts
• Ability to perform social engineering with the information available

How can this information be hacked or misused?

While taken in isolation, this information cannot pose much danger to an individual. But if an experience hacker or malicious person gets his hands on this data, he can easily use it to hack into the account of the flier and then subsequently gain access into other personal accounts as well. A well-versed hacker just needs one entry point and can then cause maximum damage in a chain reaction. Through the details on the barcode, the attackers ultimately can get access to the fliers:

So while the information that can be gained from a boarding pass and barcode is not that dangerous at first glance, it can be misused by an experienced hacker and malicious party to cause further damage and get access to other accounts. So the best way to dispose the boarding pass after flying is to either shred it, burn it or at least tear the barcode section into small pieces so that they cannot be pasted together.

A part of Mensa puzzle to 'time pass' during the weekend.....

A part of Mensa puzzle to 'time pass' during the weekend.....

125 is the answer for BACB = ?
Looks right.

2A+2B=100, so A+B = 50
(A+B) + 2C = 140, so 2C = 90, so C=45
3A+B = 90, so 2A = 40, so A= 20
So B = 30

So, the top row i.e. B + A + C + B = 30 + 45 + 20 + 30 = 125
