Just dont look at the profits only,
if the drawdown occurs in first 10 trades,
then entire trading capital is wiped out.

Any EMA based system, trend following system,
will give profits in backtest results.

Big question is whether you are able to hold on to your
horses during sideways periods !!

Hi niludeepak,

http://www.traderji.com/day-trading/27421-bollingerbands.html#post701460

The above link shows EMA-7 and SMA-20 within Bollinger Band (20,2).
Basically it is POSITIONAL in nature.SMA-20 is shown in 2 colours.
If candles are above EMA-7 (SMA-20 is bullish colour) we go for BUY.
The rationale is simple ,EMA-7 is more sensitive than SMA-20.
timepass is adding good commentary to it.
i m silently following this system since long

thanx for taking pain and visiting my thread

IMO, if u put well tested profit booking points and SL into the system they don't remain a simple trend following system and can easily out spell sideways periods,

my enemy is myself and not sideways markets.

pl also go to my motive.

system lost 1.4 crores and earned 1.7 crores
TA in not simple coin tossing !!

onlineg i ve not found a system giving this much of return even in backtesting
if u have found one suggest us

My bad! I have to learn counting first !
I underestimated the system 100 times !

I guess there is some strong commonsense filter in my head that's not even allowing me to read that number as crore ! (Perhaps I learned this from doing high school physics, having a rough estimation of answers before zeroing into actual solution helps to avoid errors!)

what else to say ! Good luck !

A good system not only allows proper entry and exit of positions,
but also adding/subtracting i.e pyramiding.

Since you are so much interested in backtesting,
try backtesting the system given below:

Although since here u are talking about a "Trend Following system",
why dont u choose a simple MA based system and backtest it.
by MA based system i mean a simple MA crossover.

Lets start with a system i was discussing with someone,
that uses 8 EMA and 34 EMA, crossover.
the rules are as follows:

8 EMA helps in defining the trade.
34 EMA helps in identifying the trade.

Rules are simple:

1. Price above 34 EMA be long
2. Add position above 8 EMA (If 8 EMA > 34 EMA)
3. Exit below 34 EMA
4. Sell short below 34 EMA
5. Add position below 8 EMA (If 8 EMA < 34 EMA)
6. Exit above 34 EMA

Any markets, indices, futures, commodities TF minimum 30 mins,
to 4 hours to suit your trading style.
Since this is a typical MA based trend following system,
it keeps one in the markets all the while.

i will suggest u choose such a simple system and backtest it.
If u get confidence then do some paper trades and start off.

The key is to keep it as simple as possible.

If u have any queries let me know

i want to know only - you follow this system or not.
