When a new browser is opened it takes you to the payment gateway of the Creditcard company and authentication is done there.Hucth will not have your login id or password. They will have only information that payment is approved for the amount so and so with transaction id and your bill identification. But this is true of reputed companies. If you are going to unknown wesite a fake site could be opened and it will get your id with password and your card is done for . In order to check that URL is authentic you have to checjh the address
Dont go by the look of the site it could be clone. If you have any doubt dont pay and send email to the company.
I have used airtel icici itctc and ebay in its earlier avatar as baaze.com. I had no problem with any of them but I felt more comfortable with first three.
You have to remember that credit card authentication is done through the company issuing the card and not by anybody else. other have no business to ask you id and password unless they provided it. If they are asking just leave them for your safety.
If you are receiving the bill enable bill pay option in credit card and give details of billers if they are listed on the site.
I have given for LIC but not yet due so cant comment much.
