Ofcourse I can show the detail, because chess being my favourite game(indoor) I tried to make it a friend of mine. But why should I? U guys are commenting on such things which u don't know a bit,and then one is laughing on points where it is to be mourned and other asking for details. That too with rolling eyes! Awesome!
Oh dear oh dear, you prove to be unworthy of a person to debate with. You cannot even justify your own points. Either detail the cost buddy, or quit it

Regarding your hypothesis about chess being more expensive to play with than football in amateur level, I've heard of fully drunken men speak better gibberish (Unless proven contrary)!

About there being better cricket being a 2nd grade sport in Aus, I have countered here in the last paragraph and you've ignored it entirely (I wonder why?):
http://www.traderji.com/157889-post15.html

About not enough Olympians coming up in India, I've mentioned clearly that it can almost solely be attributed to the bottom of the pyramid, coaching in schools.

About preferring football over cricket because of the latter being an expensive sport, the following quote justifies:
Then why not promote chess? It's a very economical game (surely more economical than football) and could earn millions for these African guys if successful! We do not play games for the purpose of making the poor earn money, we play for the sake of entertainment! The former must always succeed the latter, and it usually always does.
You are yet to prove chess is more expensive, O great grand master.
Surprisingly, you have ignored the latter part of this statement also.

You were trying to enforce your crude likes and dislikes onto other people:
Ya....a 10 country-5 day game is entertaiment really! And this thread is of no value then.
Who in the world cares if you, or G.B.Shaw think football is entertainment or hardcore pornography is? It is what the mass think which determines what general entertainment is. I'm mentioning it for the 3rd time, I cannot help if people are in a delusional state with their subjective generalizations.

About quotes on Swami Vivekananda, I am not willing to comment and I shall not continue on this particular section of the argument. You may take it in which ever way you want to.

About your statements being unbaised, that's pretty oxymoronic. The following quote clearly shows your bias against cricket.
The people who are not starving and have roti kapra makan, why they are interested in this? The time-consuming,selfish people's game.....it goes on and on and on.....for 5 days!!! It's not entertainment,it is soaking our country's youth! Soccer is entertainment.Japan banned cricket rightly. And our country?
You deem to conclude that football is the only game which deserves to be watched and everything else is unworthy by supporting your cranked up ideas with subjective quotations of supposedly famous people. The times now report gives no "statistic" or "numerical" values about the decline in cricket fans and these fans shifting towards football. His statement of
In the metros, the viewership for soccer is three times more than cricket right now."
is unreliable because by no means is it objective.

I've mentioned already that enforcing people using your method to play football can be achieved by pushing funds into football, but without the passion, there will be no results.

I wrote the name of the Reporter with date and time(who was not giving her perception as a subjective view, but reporting a fact of objectivity of viewer's choice reports, which were facts n figures-based)and again u r asking 'whose perception is this?'
.
Oh Puleez, it is essential that you take up English lessons or atleast get your eye checked up. If you go back to post 27, you will find:

BTW, whose perception is this?

Quote:
The people who are not starving and have roti kapra makan, why they are interested in this? The time-consuming,selfish people's game.....it goes on and on and on.....for 5 days!!! It's not entertainment,it is soaking our country's youth! Soccer is entertainment.Japan banned cricket rightly. And our country?
Need I say more? Just incase you have forgotten, it was you who typed the quote, not the times of India reporter . Go check for yourself in post 2. Selective amnesia? :D

Ur incompetence and failures in this debate is horrible and full of of shortsightedness,a live example of that is after the quotation from timesofindia.(......)....,
Oh my, losing and incompetent points indeed

There is always a Kolkattan & Chennaiite mad in Sports, football vs cricket is a hot topic in Kolkatta's Adda.Enjoying every bit of this.
Asishda, live examples of Amartya Sen's The Argumentative Indian(s) :)

Folks why not argue for Kabaddi. Lowest cost sports (& didn't we win an Olympic medal sometime, or was it the Asian Games?). Not sure about the employment part though. The more equipment oriented a sport is the more employment it's likely to generate. That way cricket turns out to be the best, doesn't it?

Kalyan.

My sincere apologies. Got a bit carried away in the flow. Edited.
That's appreciated.
Now that I find one point to reply in ur second last post, here it is:
A good wooden chess board and wooden chess pieces(totalling around 300/- may be),a chess watch(digital: more than 3 to 4 thousand, analog:around 1.5 thousand),a chess coach (a fairly low-grade coach, whose elo rating is invisible or a miniscule one:Rs.250/- a month),three types of books starting from 1)End game, 2)Middle game,3)Opening,4)Combinations: (The indispensable books of one each of these varities is needed for an amateur, not going into complication, only shalow knowledge, which will give a partial overview of the picture only:500 rupee each, totalling 2000,will vary though). Now will come the chess companions who will meet in the chess school, but the computer is a must and an unavoidable companion and the cost will increase by any imagination with the costly chess programmed softwares:5 figure in this account.U will be surprised an amateur chess player with the knowledge base what I mentioned is a no-where in a chess competition,as to be among some kinda position holder in a 10 day(or wahtever) and 9 round competition,u need much much more. The time required to learn:3 to 4 years for a kid(amateur level ofcourse).(Just phoned a former player in jharkhand to give some details). Now pick up the calculator to add up.

Amateur Football? :A pair of boot,a pair of socks,a small leg guard,a ball(collectively contributed),a jersey,A third class coach:50 to 100 rupees a month.
"Regarding your hypothesis about chess being more expensive to play with than football in amateur level, I've heard of fully drunken men speak better gibberish (Unless proven contrary)!"
I have played chess in amateur level, played football, played cricket. There by have some practical knowledge, hypothesis is for u who just talks nonsense without any evidence and make one after another hollow disregardfull chatter-batters.

Hari bhai, i thought you should read these text from times of india......

BCCI boosts India’s medal hopes

Partha Bhaduri | TNN

New Delhi: Politicians and prominent sportspersons from other fields who have been crying foul following the shelling out of mega-million bucks to cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction can now rest a bit easy.

According to highly-placed sources, the BCCI has followed up on its promise of setting aside money for the development of other sports by deciding to fund 50% of the training costs of elite Indian athletes who are bright medal prospects for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi.
The BCCI had earlier already set aside a Rs 50-crore corpus to fund training needs of sportspersons from other disciplines, and sources say this latest decision to share training costs of CWG athletes might cost a minimum of an additional Rs 50 crore, taking the Board’s monetary commitment for development of other sports to at least Rs 100 crore. The decision was taken on Saturday and BCCI president Sharad Pawar has already had consultations with Union sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, say sources.
“It was Mr Pawar’s idea, and there is no upper limit on the annual training costs as of now,” a top BCCI official told TOI. “But this is a landmark move and we hope it increases India’s medal prospects in the CWG 2010. We will, of course, also continue with funding junior-level athletes or sportspersons who approach us, from the Rs 50-crore corpus already set aside,” the official said.
Sources added: “Everything will be formalised soon. We will not fund athletes who have no chance of succeeding in the CWG, but only those who have medal-winning potential. Fifty per cent of the training costs will be shared with federations, but we will not be dealing with these federations directly.”
The Board plans to set up its own independent committee to assess potential medal prospects, in consultation with the sports ministry. It’s a grand goodwill gesture but the money is a small part of the Rs 7,200 crore the newly-floated IPL venture is expected to rake in.
A few days earlier, the Board had kickstarted its initial promise of promoting other sports by doling out an annual Rs 40 lakh grant to young tennis player Karan Rastogi, and an additional Rs 24 lakh for teenaged squash player Aditya Jagtap. As it turns out, that might have been just the tip of the iceberg.
