Dan, have you used AutoPatcher or see Wiki?
No. Never used it. Made many new installations by my self on my older systems and tested what ever I could in the past. Many times I had to search for all that updates for certain reasons. Now I run Windows 8 and every thing is updated automatically. Saves me a lot of time, but to do it by my self was a good learning and gave a lot of experience about what runs on my system.

Absolute urgent:

Update your Java software now or delete it on your computer now or disable it in your browser now. Millions of PCs are in danger.

Here the update link from Oracle: https://www.java.com/en/download/

In the browser, you disable it under plugins. (Mozilla: Tools< Add ons< Plugins< Java platform: disable and restart your browser)

Jave is not used by many links, so you easely can disable the tool or remove it on your system.

Here some more info's about the problem: http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/625617

Hi

The following Banking-Trojan is not very well know and even most of the antivirus programs do not recognize it. The Trojan now starts to spill over through Skype. You best keep an eye on it in case you hear some further news about it. Hope the anti spyware programs will quickly update there program's to recognize the danger.

They named the Trojan: Banking-Trojan Shylock

Hi

UpNp or also known as Plug and Play is not very safe. https://community.rapid7.com/commun...s-in-universal-plug-and-play-unplug-dont-play

Here is a tool to check if your system is in any way affected: http://www.rapid7.com/resources/fre...ownloads/universal-plug-and-play-jan-2013.jsp

As you have to fill out some lines before the check starts, just be creative (No personal data). Just did it and it works fine.

An other way for more advanced computer users is to disable the plug and play directly under the services runned in Windows. Just click on properties and use the disable mode. Only people with admin rights can change that or use the tool mentioned in the past (XP antispy) and disable it through that tool if you feel to do so.

No must and no advise to do so as it could lead to system instability, but at least you have heard about the vulnerability.

Hi

Latest VLC version has dangerous hole: http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Latest-VLC-version-has-dangerous-hole-1794474.html

If you have a VLC plug-in in your browser, just disable it under * Tools - Add-ons - Plugins* and use an other video player as long as that hole is not patched. The new version will be 2.0.6 and will be released son.

By the way: As I know that some of you use Foxit reader, be sure you updated it as the old problems are solved: http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Fixed-Foxit-Reader-released-1787736.html

I am installing updates by using "Check for updates" option in the "Help" menu. It has included an undate called "Kingsoft office 2012 Free". Looks like an office suite. Let's see.

I am using MS Office 2007 and also have OpenOffice 3.4 installed, just in case I receive .odt files sometimes.

If you have MS O 2007, I do not recommend to install Kingsoft. It is of no need.

Yes, of course. But just to see a new product. I don't use OpenOffice either, but keep it just in case I receive some files created for it.

Hi

Oracle released emergency patches for Java: http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Oracle-releases-emergency-patches-for-Java-1796543.html So be sure to update now.

It is highly recommended to uninstall all other old versions in your system. Here a link to a very good free software to uninstall any program in your system in case you not already have such a program: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

How to work with Revo Uninstaller? Just follow this: Install the software / then open it and wait until all programs are shown / then click on Java / Choose uninstall / then yes / now use moderate modus and it will start. It will take some time to find all the leads in the system, so do not worry when it takes even 5 minutes. It then will show all leads and you choose: Select all and delete. Then again the same on the next window and then it is done. Some times a system restart is needed.

Now you install the new Java 13 Update. If needed you install the 32bit and the 64 bit version, depending on your system and browser.

And here the link for the Jave Update: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
