I have downloaded MT5 from broco. There are so many symbols for same commodity some of expiry date also.

Can somebody help me choose the right symbol, which is generally traded the most for the given security. I am interested in Gold, Silver, Crude and copper.

I am not a commodity trader hence this naive question, just wanted to practice before taking the plunge.

Thanks,

SHEKHAR

May be you've figured this out by now but still.....

For any given commodity, there are two symbols for each future-month-contract, one which has the same bid & ask while the other has varying bid & ask, go with the second one.

Near-month contracts are usually the most traded ones for any given commodity.

As you can see in the link above, the volumes for near-month contracts for various commodities are much higher than distant-month contracts.

Traders (who DON'T wish to take/issue delivery) squareoff the near-month contract before the expiry & take position on the next available contract & so on.

If you need more info on commodities then it might be worth it to go through the following thread - http://www.traderji.com/commodities/60910-basic-commodity-trading-info-needed.html

Cheers :)
