Foreign INDIVIDUAL investors access to Indian stock markets

Hello!

I kindly ask your help to clarify the situation. I wand to know whether foreign PRIVATE PERSONS can invest directly into Indian stock markets or not?

I am asking this because i see the following news story at Bloomberg: India to Allow Individual Foreign Investors to Buy Local Shares Directly http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-...as-individual-investors-to-buy-stocks-1-.html

And as well because i see the following press release by Finance ministry of India: Rationalization measures in the Qualified Foreign Investors (QFIs) Scheme(1 MB) PDF http://finmin.nic.in/press_room/2012/Rational_QFI_Scheme.pdf .

I am aware of the fact that in the past it was impossible to gain access by foreign individual investors, but what is the current situation?

Yes, thats correct.
Contact some top notch brokerage houses sending them this link. Because it is not wide spread news and many people dont know it. The top brokerage houses can enquire and be able to offer you the service.
