There was a detailed article in IE about why BJP sacrificed one seat and left it uncontested for RS from UP... it created a fissures between BSP and SP, a votebank combine which would prove troublesome for BJP if it manifested... I disagree about most things with this govt but we have to concede that compared to the current opposition they have immense political acumen (almost to the level of Indira Gandhi and they employ some of the same strategies too btw )
