Hello friends
I am giving here a step by step process for using Tradestation 8.1 or 8.2 in offline mode for doing analysis on Indian securities.
1. First of all you need to create a text file. Just open the note pad and type {NSEI, 23} into it, without brackets. Nothing else should be written into this text file. Now you should rename this New Text Document to custexch.
2. After changing the name of this text file, save this file into this directory: c:\ programme files\ TradeStation 8.1 \ CAL. By pasting the custexch text file into this CAL folder, a new custom exchange by the name of NSEI will be created into the TradeStation.
3. Now open the Tradestation in Offline mode,
4. Click on File> New > Window > choose Chart Analysis and click OK.
5. Now right click on this empty window and choose Format symbol. On the Settings tab click on Lookup. Click Add, choose type as Metastock, and provide the location of your data by clicking on Browse. In the Prefix type MS. And then click OK.
6. Now a list containing all the symbols of your metastock data folder will be shown. Just click on any symbol and then click OK. Now choose the interval as DAILY {{{{ please note that tradestation currently does not supports metastock intraday data, for doing intraday analysis you will have to use ASCII data. }}} and the first date to last date of data available, and the range of data that you want to be plotted. On the time zone choose Exchange. Click OK.
7. Now a window will appear which will ask you for Description, Category, Exchange, and Price Scale etc. Do not change anything, just click on next.
8. A second window will appear asking about the Session 1, just change the times from 9:55 am to 3:30 pm our exchange time. Click on next
9. A third window will appear, Choose save settings for all symbols. Then click on Finish.
10. Now the chart containing your Metastock Data should be visible.
For those of you, who are getting a bit confused because of this long list of steps, I have prepared an image showing all these steps very clearly. If you look at the image after reading this explanation, then it will be very easy for you to follow these instructions. The image is attached along to this message.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks and regards
Frank Trader.
