how to identify the difference between range-bound and trending market

i am unable to recognize the market is trending or range-bound.
i am using a ema crossover system. how can i know the market is trending and take decision on that basis?
please help me out:(

dear friend

if u are a trend follower and getting beaten repeatedly, u can be sure that u are in a range bound mkt....

on a serious note, go thru ST's thread 'thoughts on day/swing trading'....somewhere he has shown very nicely, how he identifies a range bound mkt.

hi,


You can use ADX. On EOD chart ADX below consider choppy. If ADX is above 25 n rising then stock is in trend. Which trend??? Check other indicators to enter long/short. Because its only give this and not buy/sell signal.
