India moves toward ban on loose cigarettes to deter smoking

yeah, that's why ITC and godfrey phillips etc. fell badly yesterday. Today ITC is up on clarification that it won't make any difference to them. They can always come up with smaller packets :)

I personally think that it is only a publicity gimmick and another route for extortion.

unless smoking is not teased and advertising in manner that smoker should feel ashamed to smoke particularly in public -- not possible to control the new entrant and tough to save the existing smokers too..

me a smoker for past 16 years and now left for last 4 years .. still struggling with the after effect .. nicotine is very high addictive thing ..

IMO
This action will only increase sale of cigarettes :lol:

Ek aur fayda of this action
The smoker will get 10 sticks at the cost of 9 x 1 stick

No..no.. They will come out with packets of 3 or 5 cigarettes and charge for +1 (as packing charge).
public smoking Rs.20k fine :D
Settle for Rs. 100 maybe.. extortion racket, as I said.

Today the law says no tobacco shops within 500 mtrs. of a school/college, temple, govt. office etc.. etc.. Do you see any kind of compliance ??? It is a 100% extortion racket.
