Zerodha,

Can you please give the figure (Brokerage + All Mandatory Charges) for One Round Trade of 1 Lot of Crudeoil Bought @ 5000 & Sold @ 5005

...and one single order for 2 Lots @ 5000 filled separately & sold @ 5005 in a single order also filled separately

Also, the margin required for the same, both intraday and carryover. Thanks.

TP... there is a reason for raising the query that I have posted...Margin is set by the exchange.... hence that is not the issue... it will work in the same manner as it is presently for NSE where for Intraday position Initial Margin is sufficient while Total margin is required for overnight positions...which is across most Brokers....

I know. I downloaded their span margin file and find it confusing. So, if I can get a workable formula it would be great. Like for NF it is (more or less) Rs.(CMP of NF x 5), for mini it is Rs.(CMP of mini x 2) .. like that. That's why I just piggybacked my query along with yours :) Don't mind.

Hmmm algorithm trading is a nice feature to have, but like it happens, many a times a house tends to trade against its own smaller, weaker members. Hope we don't end up with a situation like that.

@akash and mayank,

Guys, I understand the issue, we are giving margin against stocks, but yes the process is a little cumbersome because we don't have an online module for the same yet...

We still provide you margins, but you would have to pledge the shares manually...
what is the cumbersome process , please explain would i have to call you for each trade or there any options in software or web site where i can pledge those share each trade will save some money so i dont mind doing that extra effort

If its do able i should send my application to open the account kindly let me know :thumb:

Hi Akash,

You need to pledge the shares using the off market transaction slip... Once pledged, there is no need to call over and over again... We are trying to build an online model to pledge the shares, but the only issue we are facing is because we have tied up with ILFS for our DP services....

If you are alright with it, shoot an email to [email protected], with your contact on it and with my name in the subject.... Will call you back on this...

You will find lots of info in the attached file.

I believe as a thumb rule Zerodha requires 40% of the total margin as stipulated by the exchange, for the intraday purposes only.

Hope it helps.

Zerodha,

Are you guys looking into the possibility of MetaTrader & Orion... since there has been some relaxation on the part of SEBI for other platforms...Don't know if it has been implemented yet or still at discussion stage....

@savant, none of the the CFD platforms like metatrader etc not approved softwares on the exchange... We have been scouting for various vendors and NEST with collo is the best bet for now... That said, we are definitely trying ideas to have our own inhouse platform on the lines of mt etc...

Hi Zerodha,

What you are doing for Zerodha Community is fantastic. Though I still have some queries upon this achievement, a few I am going to ask now and rest will ask when it is launched & active AND also I start using it ..... Hope you don't mind my silly queries but these are definitely important questions for all the newbies.

(1) Is the program NEST launched with you & online, can a trader use it right now, if yes, where can one download it to install on his machine.

(2) According to your point 3 above, it is somehow contradictory with your saying that Zerodha will never ask (or call you) for margin, if the funds are insufficient, it will simply square-off your holdings, WHILE IN POINT 3, you stated that a SMS Gateway will send you a message for Short Margin etc.

(3) In the same point 3 above, you wrote that "Access to various tools from option writing margin requirements to sms gateway .......", will you please either explain the tools' names & their job OR give us a link so that we can know it ourselves.

(4) "Algorithmic Trading" is definitely a very new word to me as well as for many. Will you please guide us what it is all about?

(5) In your last para, you wrote that "Clients who want to trade equity and commodity will have to switch to NEST". Does it also include the "Future & Options". It may be a noob question for you, oops, but I want to hear what you say.

(6) Lastly, about the Commodity segment, now I think it may take around 3-4 months, minimum April. Little cumbersome for many, but I know that you are working hard upon that, so no issues.

Waiting to hear from you soon Sachin dear

Cheers

1. NEST will still take a few days before it is online...

2. The idea with sending an SMS is to give a trader heads up that his position is short of margin and he should bring in funds, otherwise position would be squared off...

3. We will give features of all the tools soon...

4. You can program your trades today... Trading will not be automated but would require a single click from you... But yes you can have programs running on your strategies.. How it works!!! hmmm.. that is a huge discussion in itself...

5. If you are trading only equity futures and options, you can opt for either being on NOW or NEST...But if you trade equity and commodity, you will have to switch to NEST
