Squareoff, Stoploss, other basic lingo?

#1
Hi,

Although i am a finance mba, i dont have the requisite knowledge to trade in stock market. For example, i dont know what is squareoff, stop loss order, etc. are.

Can someone guide me to a link/book/article to know these?
All I know are some basics of finance like derivatives, working of f&o, hedging, little bit of fundamental & technical analysis (all bookish knowledge).

Thanks.

checkout investopedia.com site.
or sites of some good brokers. better if the site has section explaining the terms.

to answer your query - as per my understanding
square off - closing you open position by executing opposite trade in market. i.e if you are long (or holding the stock, future, option ) then selling it.. or if you are short then buying it back.

stoploss order - as name suggest, this is the order to stop your loss from becoming a huge loss. In this order, you specify a price to cut your loss. if mkt falls below that price, then your order becomes active and gets executed. If doesn't fall to that level, then you order remains in the idle queue.
e.g. if you buy at 100, and would like to take max 5 rs of loss on this.then give a order to sell, with trigger price of 95, and sell price of either market or 94.5 etc.

hope this helps.
happy trading
