Doubt in Day Trading. Please clarify

#1
I operate SBICAPSEC. If I have sold a few shares in Day Trading (Short Sale); But If the market goes up i want to convert to delivery before end of the day . Is it possible to convert the open sell position into delivery or only buy position alone in Day trading be converted as delivery? I mean all open positions in Day Trading can be convert into Delivery in Cash Segment irrespective of whether 'Buy' or 'Sell'? ( Note: I have no shares in my DP to give a delivery.) That is whether 'Sell' open position can be convert to 'Buy' delivery? I am searching answer for this for many days. Unfortunately no clarification about this in any website. Please help me out.

"That is whether 'Sell' open position can be convert to 'Buy' delivery?"

how could think like that. use common sense man.
you have sold the share in day trading ( you dont have in dp to give delivery), now to
cover position there is only one way i.e to buy back the shares you have sold of course
you have to bear the losses (if any).

Direct answer to your question is - NO. You can't carry forward short position to next day. Thru BTST schemes etc, it might be possible to take them to next day and square-off but chk with your broker on that, I am not sure.

Carryover of short positions in Indian mkt is not allowed by SEBI.

But in western mkt, you have the option of holding on to your short position for long time. In that case, broker loans u the shares that u have shorted, the way they extend u facility of higher exposure by holding small margin amount for long position (and obviously they will charge extra for this)... Because as far as broker's obligation to stock exchange is concerned, it is the net position on any stock.. so u might be short RIL thru sharekhan (say), but someone else might be long RIL thru sharekhan.. in that case, the broker doesn't have to deliver any RIL stocsk to exchange for settlement.. hence sharekhan can afford to extend this facility to their clients.
At this moment it is not allowed by SEBI , hence you have to close your short position on the same day, else on next day broker will buy stocks for you in auction market and forcefully close the position.

Happy Trading.

Dear friend

You have sold some shares without having in your account. That means you have borrowed those shares from your broker.

You have to give back those shares that day itself.

If you fail in this, those shares will be procured through auction within 5 or 6 days. Until then, your amount will be blocked. And you have to bear all the expenses involved.

If you have sold shares for more amount than what you have in your account you have to pay that amount immediately.

Thanks

Dear Sir,

I am holding 50 shares of Sterlite industries Ltd as of record date and I understand that they have decided to issue split shares and bonus shares to investors. I would like to know how much will I get by way of split shares and bonus shares separately?

In terms of value there will be no increase whatsoever. Two changes will take place. The held quantity will increase and simultaneously price will decrease because of split and bonus issue.

If you put up the ratio of bonus issue i can help you calculate the total number of shares and the current market price of those shares but the value of the portfolio will remain totally unchanged.

Hope This Helps

Bonus - 1:1
Split - Old FV 2, New FV 1

Record Date - 22nd June
Ex-Date - 21st June

If I have 10 shares, then I should receive 10 shares for Bonus Issue and 10 shares for Split. So, at the end total shareholding shall be 30 shares. Am I right?

No....(10 original shares + 10 bonus shares ) x 2 due to subdivision = 40 shares....

ST has answered the question. Now what will happen is that a ratio of 1:4 will be taken into consideration. So the value of 1 share will be subdivided into 4 shares which will truncate into a drop of 75% in market price.
