Unable to access NSE website

#1
One day, last week, QuoteTracker would not update quotes. I noticed that the NSE website was not accessible as well. Next day, updates were normal.

This repeated yesterday and today as well. http://nse-india.com does not open up in the browser. Ping / trace route fails as well.

Thinking that it could be a local problem, a traceroute attempt was made from a server in the US

Since the NSE website being down is clearly not possible, could somebody help identify the potential problem. All other net activity is normal.

TIA.

how about importing bhav copy manually instead of online update.

i am pretty sure ...bhav copy manual import is best options

suba
bhav copy from a non-NSE source is always an option for EOD data. buzzingstocks.com or a portfolio at rediff.com are options for live data.

However, viewing live quotes in QuoteTracker is the problem to solve (or the equivalent of being able to access the NSE website). I also realized that the peering is via sify and sify.com or walletwatch.com are also not accessible.

Thanks anyway.

The problem is not with the NSE Site (ie the server), its more to do with how they've used JSP(java server pages technology). It looops back on all jsp requests, making the site terribly terribly slow.

Eg. If you goto site-map=corporates=latest announcements it jsp's the server.. taking time and it loops on itself making the whole damm site slow. (i googled all this after waiting 10mins for the results... SUCKS *LOL*)

of course you might be getting choked on you're end too. and a US server will be slow to access the website as compared to a local peer. (all local sites load faster, thats how the net works). It takes me 0mins in the night after 10 but takes a good time between 1000 and 1530 (guess all you boys are loading it up!).

so all in all.. its slow. solution: use a DIRECT LINK to the "bhav" copy . ie use

http://www.nse-india.com/content/equities/PR.zip

dont goto the damm wesbite. just end this. and keep pressing refresh until you get the download menu and the server resumes so if you're using opera you can start/stop till you get the whole thing.

hope this helps.

if this is too much info, well education never hurt anyone.

You are right, the NSE website can be sluggish during duty hours with or without the ticker tape frame and other refreshes. But having seen times when access time to Yahoo was 1200 ms during happy hour and a webpage with more than 40 KB of graphics invited snide, one is willing to cut some slack.

The problem is the path to NSE. Somewhere, once it reaches the Sify backbone, the traffic is getting cut off. It almost seems like an IP netblock.

If someone using Dataone broadband from Calcutta can confirm that they can access the NSE website or get updates in QuoteTracker, I will know that it is just me.

Thanks.

err i can access the NSE website at ALL times, except its really slow. thats what i meant by saying that the JSP's are looping the server requests.

right now, 10:02am the whole world and their gradma will be on the nse website. i could access it after a wait of about 5secs but if i access a JSP page, it'll take over 5mins and i wont get a reply. (im on a simple 512kbps line, mumbai).

you should use yahoo for any quotes, they're ALL realtime assuming you log and stay logged in. :)

Good news; specially for self.

The problem seems to have cured itself. As of this morning, NSE is back on track and QuoteTracker updates fine.

Thanks to everybody who helped.
