I have come with the begging bowl, oh my father (referring to god),
I have come with this begging bowl, oh my father

(3)pindam ennum elumbodu sadhai narambu,
udhiramum adangiya udambu enum,

This begging bowl is a lump made of flesh, bones, nerves,
and blood, together as the body,
(The human (material) body is depicted as a begging bowl which the soul carries)

(4)ammaiyum appanum thandhadha,
illai aadhiyin val vinai soolndhadha,

was this bowl (body) given by my mother and father,
or is it a product of all my past karma (misdeeds from the beginning of time),

(5)immaiyai naan ariyadhadha,
siru bommaiyin nilayinil unmaiyai unarndhida,

I don’t understand (the reason for) my current birth,
I stand here like a small puppet, trying to know the truth,

(6)athanai selvamum un idathil,
naan pichaikku selvathu evvidathil,

all the treasures are with you,
where else shall I go to beg,
(you gave me this body (begging bowl), so that I can reach you ( where all riches are))

All I have is just the bowl ( can also be interpreted as I am just playing a role(in a drama)),
the secret(reason) for it is only known to you,

you have made me take innumerable (different) births,
