Start of YTD period

#1
I have been looking at stats of some mutual funds on morningstar.in. YTD is one of them. I know what YTD means and how it is calculated, but there is one silly doubt that I could not figure out from the Internet.

To calculate a YTD return, is the start of the calendar year (Jan 1st) used as the starting point, or the start of the financial year (April 1st)?

Ytd means year to date..

It is generally taken from the start of financial year
