PyDownloader Reloaded

This forum is a lot less active now, many people shifted to other channels ...
Sign of the times! The old paves the way for the new. However most new channels are mostly chatter centric! The world is enthusiastically diving headlong into an unmanageable, acrimonius Babel!!! :(

Not really!!! Specifically in respect to this particular forum!!! Have been around here longer than most! The steep drop observed during the visits this time around in forum content quality and purpose is unlike anything that I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!

Consider This:-

> Earlier this forum used to be a place for prople wih passion for 'the nuts and bolts of trading/ investing'. Discussion and experience sharing about methodology and systems was the dominant norm (of course, some minor lighthearted chatter did also exist :) ). People were inclined to assist with AFL/ other code, willingly share 'home grown' tools for helping out with trading related tasks etc! - Now this is just a place for chatter and idle banter!!! (Except for a few members like ST who genuinely deserve heartfelt #respect)

> Earlier this forum had minimal advertising intrusion!!! - Now this place is infested with ads, pop ups and nags of brokers of all hues and shades!!! The site owner appears to have turned into a ready and willing toady  for these brokers to promote their stuff with complete abandon!!! A trait which was very craftily leveraged and utilized in full ( in due connivance from even some members here ) by a particular broker to outsmart the competition!!! - Now the most dominant threads here are the Brokers' threads, which are enthusiasticlly accorded prominen centerstage on the main Home Page by the site owner himself!!!

> Earlier this forum had human members :) - Now most appear to be bots!!! No doubt placed in-situ by the site owner himself to simulate bogus  forum traffic and activity for extorting ad revenue!!! Have a look at the idiotic, innane spam of this particular sample :wtf:!!!

https://www.traderji.com/community/members/bernadard.301126/#latest-activity

This is just one of the many proliferant examples!!!! The Mods appear to be merrily asleep on the job - Can't blame them though - Being a Mod in a forum such as this is just a ploy by site owners to extract thankless, unpaid work out of people!!!

> Basic forum functions have either gone awry OR are missing!!! The search function is up the gum tree!!! As this thread owner, when endeavouring to edit the first post with upgrade info and links, I find that it is not enabled for thread owners!!! :wtf:

> And have a look at the type of people who join this forum nowadays!!! :wtf:

https://www.traderji.com/community/threads/nse-chart.110790/
https://www.traderji.com/community/threads/index-future-stocks-historical-data.110785/

These are the very kind of people who take any philanthropy/ help for granted, download and scoot without the requisite basic courtesy of even a 'thanks' for the help received ( the same phenomena/ mentality that I have been observing with the upgrade link download, this time around!!!). This particular trait/ mentality appears to be the dominant herd here. So much so, that I, myself, too am seriously re-considering further ill advised philanthropy in this forum!!! Will be taking the link down!!! Those of you who have already downloaded, you may exercise your own discretion to share this further - but I'd sincerely advise against it, as such utilities are manna for unscrupulous elements for selling 'databases' to the vast majority of the ignorant and uninformed in this country via those very same, previously alluded to, new channels!!!

With the search function out of order, I was unable to find the posts by this member, who is another of Amarkets spammer. He still has 32 posts that I am unable to locate. Your post enabled me to locate and delete 15 of his posts. If you can, please post links to his other posts so that I can delete them.

The mods delete about 50 posts per day and the members never see those.

Then there are useless posts which do not call for deletion, we have to approve those.

Edit : Finally I was able to locate all of his posts and ban him.

Please report the objectionable posts, you will see action on those.

These posts are not objectionable per-se but certainly can be categorized as annoying spam - Not only from forex broker bots but also from chatbots! Had only a cursory look, but most appear to congregate in the Forex/ Crypto related section

https://www.traderji.com/community/forums/#the-markets.5

AND in such generic sections

https://www.traderji.com/community/forums/beginners-guide.83/
https://www.traderji.com/community/forums/words-of-wisdom.62/

Some have insinuated themeselves in other sections too, in generic query threads

I guess, I didn't take into consideration that the members who have downloaded thus far will need a relevant threadspace for queries/ requests and bug reports - Hence conceded! You are right! :)

P.S - For info of all, have taken down the resource! Queries/ Requests/ Bug Reports from only the users who have endorsed their thanks on the below post will be responded to!

Regards,
Yes, we have to read those posts, but don't have any valid reason to delete those.

Please note that the new members' first 10 posts go to an approval queue before being visible on the forum. The moderators have to go through all those posts before approving any.

You see probably 25% of the posts of the new members, the rest we read and delete/ban. We don't have a choice.

Then there are posts in the wrong section. We have to first approve them and then move them from one section to another.

Then there are fighting / angry / misplaced posts from the older members.

Sometimes we have to read 100 posts to approve only 3-4. So please imagine the effort that goes into keeping the forum reasonably clean.

To repeat myself for the nth time, please please use REPORT facility to immediately take action against spammers.

  1. Didn't have time to write detailed 'help' but previous and even new users ought not to face any issues as the utility is fairly intuitive to use.
  2. Download from attached link. Start 'Setup', accept default prompts and the ultility will get installed in C:\PyDownloader. Don't be tempted to change the installation path during Setup because the utlity is configured to work only from that location!!!
  3. * If you still have the previous installation in your C:\ drive, then copy/ backup/ preseve your TickerList.txt because it may get overwriitten!!!
  4. Place the 'PyD_v1.2.format' file in your Amibroker installation's 'Formats' folder and you are Good To Go!
  5. A sample TickerList is included for the guidance of new users for scrip and exchange suffix config. Sample data files are included in the Data folder as output format examples.
Will probably look in from time to time to see how users are getting on. If you like using the utility and are a previous experienced user, then you may like to contribute by guiding newbies who may need hand holding

Note:- New users will benefit by going through this entire thread and the one indicated below, for troubleshooting or for answers to general queries!

True dat. This was once a great place for learning the nuts and bolts of various trading strategies; a sounding board for doubts and ideas. And as you say, folks used to share their homegrown tricks and tips that you tried out. Two unique hacks that caught my eye were the '315 strat' and one that Ghosh wrote about.... if the difference in the pivot, Res, and Sup were 400, then you followed a particular buy-sell. (He could update his figures as markets have risen exponentially since he made his setup. Been a while and he's probably deserted the forum too)

It's a different world here- change is inevitable. It's become a market for brokers peddling their stuff.
A pity

Will try n visit more! :)

Otherwise send a Forum PM. By your 'nick' I'd come to know that it's user related!
By the bye, Yahoo seems to be cutting back on its offerings. Their home page is more 'Oliver Twist-ish' than Mother Hubbard's cupboard. Won't be long when they pull down the yahoo finance data.
That's when we'll be looking to you for alternatives
