go thru the above post.. the logics and reason mentioned here are more or less not valid today. from the past 1.5 months cash shares have been giving a decent return in btst..but the problem is that the day they have to fall, they have a tendency to open sharply lower, and then the liquidity dries up, volumes become abysmal.. it may be possible for someone who is trading a small qty, to get out.. very difficult for someone who is trading size to get out.

BTST perfectly works in a bull market where many stocks follow Elliots wave pattern.
now lot of shares have abnormal behaviour.
many brokers not allowing non f &o counters for short selling.
If a company moves 10 percent previous day. next day all expecting the company to move up and going long.
Some big players using this opportunity for short selling.
For making sure loss u can try non listed F&O counters for BTST

either stay away, or if you do want to trade this way, trade selectively and in small qty. do not make it your bread and butter, just a very small part of your trading portfolio.

one small trick.
check how many stocks making 52week high
its around 50/2500 stocks
and 52week low = 2 or 3
It shows markets are in sideways movement.
when u see 52weeks stocks more than 150 its sure bullish.
that time mostly gap up opening happens in many shares.
These are not technicals. just a logic.
many professional traders have confusion in this kind of market.
survival is better than making money.
