what trap? now the risk has been reduced and retail can freely trade in nifty fut.

no need to trade in options(slow poison) or stock fut or bank nifty fut.
Both are right... given 90%+ traders lose in FNO, reducing lot size will increase the losers pool as well as very very small of new winners pool (who are going to make use of small size to learn trade with minimum risk during learning phase).

So, looks like reducing lot size has it's own merits & demerits..

One question though:

Does any one has any idea on the margin implications?

Since lot size is reduced by 50 %, will the margin amount be reduced by 50% or close about?

margin is mainly driven by volatility, unless any drastic changes in volatility; percentage of margin shall remain same as previous
