Isn't flipkart profitable?
Far from it. They may turn profitable if they stop investing. The question is can they afford to.

Amazon's profit is a hit and miss too with more misses. Alibaba is a different animal. Cant really compare companies in china and india. China is not really a capitalist economy. Competition from foreign companies is..hmm..well, not encouraged

As far as flipkart is concerned we should be aware that flipkart is still loss making firm. For me kozmo.com case is repeated in indian version. PE firm valued this company through its revenue now for IPO they are concentrating more on revenue instead of profits (a million dollar day before diwali is 1 of the example)

On the other hand Peers of Flipkart, Amazon and snapdeal are in the same race of attracting consumer. While Amazon in just a short span, generted huge revenue with profit (profit margins are low but profitable firm)

I would rather say that flipkart is good company but valuing at 5rs per 1 rs revenue (annum) is wrong. It should be 2 rs or less till the time it makes itself profitable company.

Flipkart Valuation $15Bn with the funding from the PE firms.

- Market captured ~2% of the indian population.
- Branding Success 65% (Direct visitors to their website, not through google). Reducing the marketing budget day by day with the above stats.
- Currently making huge losses but covering the maximum customers.
- IPO should be coming in year 2017-18. Till that time it will capture ~4% of the indian customers.

HUGE potential to grow to double digits.
