Is it true that day traders are losers???

Hi,

I am new to trading and wish to open an online account with one of the brokers and do day trading in my spare time.

But my friends warn me that if I do day trading i will lose money and only people who have used the stock market for investing have earned; so please someone as a seasoned day trader guide me regarding this issue and what all precautions to be taken when doing intra day trading.

Thanx in Advance

dear joy,

i agree with your friends. day trading is NOT a part time job to be done in 'spare time'. it is a full time job. and it is much more risky and may be less rewading too than trading for longer durations.

i am not a seasoned day trader, & not a day trader at all, but felt like posting these few lines.

let 'joy' be there in your trading also.

all the best.

Hello Uma,

The advice you have recieved from your friends is true to a great extent. Day trading is not for everybody. It requires lot of preparation by way of trading knowledge, tatics, mental strength and capacity or ability to take actions quickly. Moreover the biggest disadvantage is you have to sit in front of the screen for the full trading hours.

You certainly can make money through day trading. The other advantage of daytrading is you can keep in touch with all the vagaries of market which will will give you good insight of the market.

But the real profit lies in investing. It can be a few days , months or even longer periods. In my case i day trade as well as invest for short periods.

Probably you should start with the smallest of quantites to get familiar with the market. Are you familiar with the rules of the market and tools required for trading. If not get yourself prepared and equipped before you start trading.
