Analysts talk of investor's stop loss in CNBC.

If a trader's stop loss is 5% and risk reward at least 3:1

An investor stop loss should be 15% with same risk reward or

or

An investor stop loss whould be 5% with risk reward -5-7:1.

Little hazy on this. Any comments?

The thumb rule is that stop loss is at 7% and booking of profits at 20% level. By this mean, if you have three trades at 7% stop loss and one good trade with 20% profit booking. You are even. Now you can change it to 5% stop and 15% level of booking profit according to your stop loss.
