How's the weather up North?

Just heard that avalanches have swept through villages in Indian Kashmir killing six people and taking the death toll from the heaviest snow in the region in two decades to 42!

The state was snowed under for the fourth day and was largely cut off from the rest of India with flights cancelled, roads blocked and power and phones disrupted, no food or water!!!

Anybody in this forum from Kashmir??

Good question this, nice to see your concern;
This only means that we will always learn
that Nature with her moods & fury forever
will be for us Humans the Greatest Leveller.

Sad to see indeed that folks like me,
far down South where it's as warm as can be;
Can only sit & watch in grief,
as a snow-triggered Avalanche plays the role of Life's thief.

Let's all pray for for some solace & succour to those
that are bearing & suffering & fighting their woes;
Our sisters & brothers & daughters & sons
from the far North, We are & will always be one. :)

Very touching Jaideep!

I hope all goes well for them. According to latest reports at least 100 people have been killed in this avalanche!

I thought I read 250 & more in the News,
We should count ourselves lucky we're not in their shoes;
Let's also think about the ones who are trapped,
They must all be so cold and so hungry and just zapped.

Here's where our Army just routinely stepped in;
I said "Routinely" altho' the task was so grim.
That's our Army for you, a real bunch of guys,
Who can't ever question, no "Whats" & no "Whys".

We take them for granted for whatever their task,
Just get into trouble and you don't have to ask;
Be it bullets or bombs or floods or even snow,
He'll be there for you, that's our brave Army Joe. ;)

Right now they're trekking & zooming in
On tunnels & valleys & where hopes are running thin;
They're getting food & warmth & medicines too,
To folks whose survival chances were few.

That's our Army for you I tell you all again,
For now & forever that'll be my refrain;
They're there to guard our fattened backsides,
As the Markets zoom on their dizzy joy rides. :)

Nomally in Delhi, the cold starts wearing off by 15th of feb but this time continued write through February which implies that it must be pretty bad in Kashmir. In the Sunday times, Swamintathan Aiyer(Economist and former editor of economic times) wrote an interesting piece on how he found concerns about global warming misleading when Kashmir was facing heavies snowfall in 15 years and Bombay lowest temperature in the last 40. He said Global warming was more of a myth perpetuated by vested interests.

Great poetry, Jaideep like your magnificent poem on Tsunami.:-

While we approximate or estimate
On how bad is the climate
Let me say that for me, Jaideep, your classy poetry is the ultimate
Where poetry is concerned my dear friend, you are consummate
Rhymers like me you can easily decimate
How I wish I could imitate,mate
Hope that you never face writers block; a stalemate
Irrespective of whether we meet or not; with you I shall feel intimate
We should be greatful to this forum and internet to enable us to amalgamate

I totally second your views on the Army
They can be depended upon no matter how badly the situation gets stormy
Unlike some others who are smarmy
For such situations, they deserve the grammy
