How to use it?

#1
Hi

I like to open this thread, as we share a lot of tips and tricks how to use the INTERNET by it self. In many cases a lot of ideas and tricks are posted in different threads all over the forum. Problem with this: Such information get lost.

Now this thread is meant to post such knowledge finally collected in one thread.

Take care / Dan :)

Hi

How to share small files or folders with any kind of data over the INTERNET?

Here just one idea with all the needed steps to do so:

1.First we make a "Zip folder" with all those files or data we want to share. How to do?

If you do not have an already existing folder with those data or files which you just can copy past to your desktop, then follow the next steps. If you have such a folder, but it is bigger then 5 MB, then follow the next steps.

- Open a new folder on your desktop by putting your cursor in free space on the desktop.
- Now press the right side of the mouse and a small window opens.
- Here you choose "New" and then "Folder". Click on it.
- Now you will see a "New Folder" on your desktop.
- Go with your cursor over it. Press the right side of your mouse. A new window will open.
- Here you choose "Rename". Now give this folder a name like "Data for you" or "Data 2" when you have to make a few folders. Your fantasy.
- Now copy past all the sorted or want to share files and data into the new created folder/s on your desktop.

- "Copy past" is done by putting your cursor over the script or data you choosed to share.
- Now press the right side of your mouse. A new window opens.
- Here choose "Copy". The window appears and that is fine.
- Now you open the folder you created. Put your cursor inside of it.
- Now press the right side of your mouse and a new window will be shown.
- Choose " Past" and now this script, PDF, data or what ever file you before choosed is now in this folder.
- If you are done with all the files or data you want to share, close the folder.

Important: Now we have to check the size of the folder/s, as we only can share folders with a max. size of 5 MB with the provider I will show today. Now how to find out what size our folder has?

- Put your cursor over this folder.
- Now press the right side of your mouse. A small windows open.
- On the bottom choose: "Properties".
- A small windows open and under "General" you check "Size". Here not more than 5000 KB or 5 MB are allowed. ( http://tinypic.com/r/1534b9d/8 )

If you have more then those 5 MB, you open an other "New Folder" like described above and split your data or files by looking that each of the folders you create not has more then those 5 MB. How to do?

- Open the folder.
- Go to "View" ( http://tinypic.com/r/28l5ctk/8 )
- Here you choose "Details" and you will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/syxyxu/8 )
- Now you are able to choose the file/s which do make the folder bigger then 5 MB as you now see from each file what "Size" it has.
- Put your cursor over it, press the right side of the moues. Now instead choosing "Copy", this time you choose "Cut". The window will close and that is fine.
- Go to the other folder, place your cursor in it, press the right side or your mouse, a small window open and now you choose again "Past" and that's it. Now your file has moved into this folder.

Final step to get the "Zip" file:

- Close your "New Folder/s" and put your cursor over it.
- Press the right side of the mouse. A new window opens.
- Here you choose: "Send to"
- and here you choose: " Compressed (zipped) folder". Click on it.
- Now a new "Zip folder" was created on your desktop. (This is how a zip folder looks: http://tinypic.com/r/2j512kz/8 )

Now we are ready for the second part which I will describe in my next post.

Hi

Second part of the above which is done with Windows 8.1 and even works with older Windows systems. In case you really did not understand the above, in which I even described the most simple steps word by word, here two links just as some add to the above which you will use when having a few files you want to share. If you have only one file, then you can skip that part and you go directly to point 2, which you will find in this post.

- How To Make A ZIP File: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahATyKyfRdk
- How to Make a Zip File on Windows or Mac: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Zip-File

If you feel you need a separate software beside what your OS already provides, if even, then you can for example choose the following software which works on "Windows, Mac and Linux": http://zipcreator.com

Now you may ask your self: Why do we need a "Zip file" and why do we not use just the normal "Folder file" we have on the desktop? Answer as following:

Instead send an email with multiple attachment files, send a single compressed file within your email or share file hoster, as an attachment will help you reduce email size and transmission time. (Source: http://www.howtozip.com/indexmenu.asp?menu=why_do_we_need_zip_files_4)

As we finally have those "Zip file/s", even not bigger as the 5 MB, we move on with the next step which is:

2. Now we upload this "Zip file" to the "Share file hoster". How to do?

First of all we need to choose one of the many free providers out in the wild. You can "Google": "Free Share file hoster" and you will get many ideas. For this excample I choosed "KeepandShare" which you will find here: https://www.keepandshare.com/htm/press/about_us.php It is very easy to use.

- First open a free account here: https://www.keepandshare.com/business/registration.php?form=email
- Put in any e-mail address you want to use for this.
- After you done this, you will receive an e-mail from them. Press to "Activate your account" with them.
- A new link opens and you will see this page which you have to fill out with your fantasy ( http://tinypic.com/r/v79gro/8 )
- In the first line you write your avatar name you want to use for this account. Then choose your PW for the account and write your choosed name in the next lines.

Now you are in your account.

- You will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/1zezjm0/8 )
- Now choose: "My Documents" ( http://tinypic.com/r/2pzedk7/8 )
- You will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/21j2jhu/8 )
- Here set your priority for the moment the way you see it in this screen shot ( http://tinypic.com/r/25hfyts/8 ) "Sharing: Anyone (Public)"
- Next press "Save and Exit" and you should be back here ( http://tinypic.com/r/1zezjm0/8 )

If you are not there where I showed, as you may checked the "Dashboard", you will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/2eb5poy/8 ) and here you choose "File" to be back where you should. You may even see this when you may pressed some thing else ( http://tinypic.com/r/10rr412/8 ) and here you also click on the "File" and you are back on track.

Next steps to follow:

- Here ( http://tinypic.com/r/1zezjm0/8 ) you choose: "Upload Files". Now this screen will open ( http://tinypic.com/r/j5fq04/8 ) and here you see why I mentioned the 5 MB on size for one single zip file.
- Now choose "Add more files". An other small windows will open and you will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/24q5r0p/8 )
- Now choose "Desktop" or the specific location you saved the file/s or what ever and double click on your "Zip File". If you have only one file or an Office document like an "Excel sheet", you double click on that one and now you will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/2612mty/8 )
- If you are done, then click on "Upload" and if you have more files, you repeat the mentioned by clicking on "Add more files" and after all files are there, you click "Upload".
- Now you will see this ( http://tinypic.com/r/1t2eqg/8 )

Important:

- Before you now press "Share your files", you must "Copy past" the "URL link" shown in this window ( http://tinypic.com/r/281vipg/8 ). This link you will need for your posting.

Opening a new "Text file" on your desktop you do like this:

- Put your cursor in free space on your desktop.
- Press the right side of your mouse. A new window opens.
- Here you choose "New" and then you choose "Text document" and click on it. Now you have a new Text document on your desktop and you open it and then "Past" the link into it which you before "Copy".
- DO not forget to safe the link by going to the left upper side from the "Text document". Here you choose "File" and then you choose "Save". Now regardless what you do, the link is safe for the moment.

Next steps to move on from here ( http://tinypic.com/r/281vipg/8 )

- After saving the link, you press "Share your files". Now this window will open ( http://tinypic.com/r/swvk37/8 ).
- Here you again be sure that you allow "Sharing Anyone (Public)".
- If you did make any mistake by not saving the link I mentioned from your uploaded file or what so ever, here you get an other chance to do so by "Copy / Past" the link "Immediate download/view".
- After this you choose "Save and Exit".
- Now you are back here ( http://tinypic.com/r/29pvuk1/8 ) and you will see your uploaded file. Next you "Log out" of you account.

Final step:

Now you can make your posting or what so ever and just "Copy / Past" the saved link into your post and that's it. Now you shared what you wanted and the members here can download it at any time. Of course: There is much more you can do with this account, but to share files, this is what you need to do when using this provider. If you use others, then the zip file part will be the same but how to handle the account and the upload way can be different.

@TP

You have an other important topic which is how to upload an Image file. Would you mind to post this here, so the collection is moving on. Other topics are most welcome.

Have a nice day / Dan :)

YES
What kind of OS do you use
WINDOWS 7
and what do you want with this software?
IN VARIOUS SITUATIONS WHERE V NEED TO PASTE ITEMS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES ---> CLIPX HELPS TO COPY DEM ALL IN ONE GO AND THEN PASTE TO THE TARGET.
ONE EXAMPLE IS ADDING SCRIP DETAILS TO AUTO TRADER SCRIP LIST
COPIED FROM EXCEL OR OTHER SOURCES.
IN GENERAL IT MAKES THE LIFE EASIER FOR SOMEONE WHO COPIES N PASTES A LOT (ESPECIALLY CODE SCRIPTS AND THE LIKE)
Thank u Dan

P.S. An UNRELATED QSTN------> the auto trader maintains scriplist in .RSG file format------> What is .RSG file format ? how to edit it ?
if u need a sample file ,wll upld.

Hi

Ok, I see.

By the way: I am not in those kind of topics you mention, so even I have to search for answers by what you ask for. Means: I am not an IT pro. It is just a hobby for me and many times when there is not much action in trading I spend my time doing or testing things just for fun or write some stuff like above.

May the following information helps you:

- What is File Extension RSG?: http://www.solvusoft.com/en/file-extensions/file-extension-rsg/ Now also on this page you will find "RSG File Analysis Tool™"

- File format .RSG: http://www.thefile.org/extension/rsg You also will find information like this "Manual edition of the Windows Registry" on this link.

Take care / Dan :)
