How to stay focussed while day trading?

I advise young traders to have a reality check of the market they are about to enter. This market requires a lot of concentration and 'boring' stuff. It will not provide you with the adrenaline rush. So, be prepared and do your homework before investing in it.

One of the many prerequisites of successful trading is to cultivate a sense of discipline. Prepare a well-constructed trading plan and stick to it. Set your limits. It is very important to know how much is too much or you end up losing more than you originally expected. Allow yourself some breaks in between trading to fresh up your mind. It will help you concentrate better. You could also try some meditation. Lastly, if you are passionate enough about trading then you won't have trouble staying focused while day trading.

Forex trading is not fun and games. It is a very serious business with as serious consequences. You need a big attention span in forex as sometimes the trading process gets boring. You will not get the desired adrenaline rush in it but the market wll entertain as you go.

You can consider some general day trading principles and then move on to decide a) accurate money management plan b) observe the charts c)what and when to buy and sell.
  • Day traders need to take care of the latest stock market news and events that affect stocks. Make a list of stocks in which you wish to trade and keep yourself informed.
  • Focus on a maximum of one to two stocks during a session as finding opportunities is easier with a few stocks.
  • Decide what kind of order you will want to use either market order or limit order.
  • There are times when stock markets test your patience so decisions should be governed by logic and not emotions.

To stay focused while trading, try and manage to make shorter watch lists, because the bigger ones will just lead you to confusion, nothing else. Make use of less technical indicators, for they only fill up your mind with abundant information, proving less beneficial in the long run.

Also, be who you are. Choose a trading style that you think suits you best, only then will you be able to focus while trading. Do not get carried away by what others think or do. Stock markets are filled with distractions. Maintain a distance from them and focus on your plans only.

If you want to be focused and increase your day trading profits, you must go beyond think about money. You need to focus on the quality of your trading setups. To do this, limit the no. of traders in each trading session. Having limited opportunities to trade forces you to select your trading setups carefully. If you limit your trades, this will in turn lead a boost in you day trading profits over time.

Well this is a common issue that almost every day trader faces. To focus, I would suggest to have a trading plan in place. What that will do is, it will help you to not get confused and waver while trading and you will be able to trade with more concentration and confidence.
