How to calculate my returns on MF?

#1
Hello all! I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am very hopeful that I shall get some expert help.

I invested in SBI magum equity - Growth via a SIP starting 19-May-2009 till 26-Apr-2010 (12 installments of Rs.2000 each), then I stopped investing on it. My investment looks like this -

Date Invested Amt. Units NAV
19-May-09 2000.00 65.13 30.71
25-Jun-09 2000.00 62.76 31.87
27-Jul-09 2000.00 58.28 34.32
25-Aug-09 2000.00 57.19 34.97
25-Sep-09 2000.00 54.53 36.68
26-Oct-09 2000.00 52.65 37.99
25-Nov-09 2000.00 51.85 38.57
29-Dec-09 2000.00 50.68 39.46
25-Jan-10 2000.00 51.92 38.52
25-Feb-10 2000.00 53.22 37.58
25-Mar-10 2000.00 49.38 40.50
26-Apr-10 2000.00 38.11 41.57

I did not redeem these units yet.

Can someone say how much my investment is worth now and how do you calculate that?

Thanks krishna324. But how do you say I am at loss? Can you detail how did you calculate the loss?
I have a total of 655.692 units and with current NAV of 37.63, my investment seems to be worth of Rs.24674. Against what I have invested Rs.24000, isn't I am at profit?
(I may sound stupid with my calculations. I am a novice here, please help!)

Hi Macho , you're calculations are spot on.

1.)I think there is a mistake in the data you have provide for 26-Apr-2010. The number of units you have given is 38.11. Now if you're units*nav should equal you're sip amount, and if you're SIP amount is 2000, then the number of units should be 48.11 and not 38.11. Besides, you have mentioned that you have purchased 655.692 units and from the data you have given, it totals to around 645 units.

2.)For the calculation part, it's pretty straight forward.

- You're present value will be (Total number of units)*(Present NAV). In your case it is 655.692*36.80(Nav as of 01-01-2012) = 24129.76

- If you want to calculate you average cost price(or purchasing price) then (Total Amount Invested)/(Total Number of units) in your case 24000/655.692 = 36.6021

I hope that is how you went about doing your calculations. If you have any different method, do share it.
