Hello,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

You need full Windows to run AmiBroker and x86/x64 CPU so it will work on Surface Pro, but not on "RT" (which is ARM based).

Hello,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

Generally we recommend using latest version (5.60) as it has been tested with Windows 8 and works fine.

If you need to use older versions, that are not compatible with OSes released
after them, then you would need to turn off User Access Control
or better yet, install to directory other than Windows protected dirs like Program Files.

Hello,

It is not true. Despite what Apple and Samsung try to tell you with gigahertz talk,
their recent 1+ GHz processors are much *slower* than 2004 Intel CPUs.

Besides it is not about horsepower but about lack for C++ development support on mobile platforms.

Andoid is Java based and everything-Java in slow and inefficient in terms of memory usage due to
forced use of garbage collection mechanisms. Google apparently found inherent limitations of it
and recently allows native development but current state of it is royal PITA.

Apple is evengelising their own flavour of "Objective C" which, despite the name, has very little common
with C++. Not to mention Apple "terms of service" for developers that are as far from being friendly as one
can only imagine.

Microsoft again made a mistake of doing fragmentated way and releasing "Windows RT" for ARM based devices
instead of regular Windows. This is the most stupid move one can do. If they simply compiled full blown
Windows 8 for ARM they would have a winner, but now they just fragmented the space. Plus their another stupid
move on dropping Windows API in favour of Windows Runtime which again breaks compatibility with existing code.

All "engines" that are supposed to address fragmentation in mobile development area are
game-centric.

All in all, all major vendors do NOTHING to make development of anything but stupid games easier,
and that is why nearly nothing serious is available on mobile platforms.

There is no chance for full blown AmiBroker on mobile, but as I said, I could make CHARTING-ONLY mobile app.
It would NOT appear under "AmiBroker" name because it would not even come close to AmiBroker.
It would be only about 10-15% of what AmiBroker on PC is now.

Also, be sure that I am NOT going to spend more than 10% of time on it.

Best regards,

Hello,

AmiBroker runs just fine on Windows 8.

As to whenever it is worth upgrading - under the hood W8 is not very different from W7.
The biggest change is user-experience - you need to learn to live with new Start page :)

Hello,

Yes, if you use remote access, for example TeamViewer on Android/IOS to access
your Windows machine.

Windows 8 pro is super set of windows 8. I am using windows 8 laptop and Amibroker works. I don't find any reason not working in windows 8 pro. Further in Amibroker yahoo list, its developer has said it will work in windows 8 pro tablets.

Please go through this message from Tomasz Janeczko that I read somewhere.....

Hello,

From time to time someone asks if you can run AmiBroker on tablet.
Since AmiBroker is currently Windows application and requires Intel CPU, you can not use Android or iOS
unless you just install remote application such as TeamViewer but recently a new wave
of Windows 8 tablets arrived that offer fantastic price, performance and features not found in Android/iOS.

For example new ASUS Transformer T100TA costs just $399, offers 11 hours battery life, it is lighter than iPad 4,
has 2GB RAM, 32GB flash disk, IPS screen, new Intel Atom Bay Trial 4 core and
full Windows 8
so you can run ALL desktop Windows applications,
including AmiBroker.

I would not be surprised if one can install Android on that tablet in near future in dual boot config

Good post ....:)

I guess Asus Transformer is a good Tablet that can run Ami and other charting tool. It has advantage of both being Laptop & Tablet & also fits our small pockets.

Thanks & Regards,
