Any specific thread on term insurance or any views ?
Basically what is the idle time to take the term insurance.
It should be a routine thing at any age, but after 30-35 it seems a must these days.

Earlier the better. As the person is young, his term insurance premium is low...also this is the age where term insurance is most needed as the family, children are growing and if some unfortunate thing happens to the wage earner, the family and its future gets disturbed....

After 55-60 one may not need term insurance as by this time most of the family needs such as children’s education, marriage, higher studies, buying flats for them and also person’s need for financial independence is met so the need for term insurance reduces...

Take term plan for only risk cover and the rest of the money invest every year in a equity mutual fund ....but don’t go for Unit Linked Insurance Plans.....term insurance and equity MFs are the best combination for getting risk cover and also capital building.....

Take Term plan for covering risk of life. Don’t go for Unit Linked Insurance Plans or ULIPS which the insurance agents market very aggressively under names like money back etc.The difference between the ULIP premium and term plan premium ,invest in equity mutual fund.Combination of Term plan and equity MF works best for risk cover as well as capital formation.....

ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has started a facility of cashless hospitalisation under a scheme known as Medical Advantage Feature....the details are given below....

https://www.icicipruamc.com/medical-advantage-feature

This is a service without any charges to the investor and cashless settlement is done by the Third Party Administrator selling units in the designated schemes and settling hospital bills. This facility is available for joint holder also. This may be a great help because the medical emergency can strike at even night or bank holidays when banks are closed and hospitals refuse to admit patient unless a hefty deposit is paid. The relatives then have to rush to ATMs for cash withdrawal at odd hours and ATMs being out of cash is very common these days...this Card will atleast help getting admitted in the hospital and the treatment could be started before the other sources of money is tapped in the morning.....they have tie up with over 5000 hospitals in the country.

To tackle the issue, we have formed a group of 5 relatives residing in 5 km radius and each has kept cash of Rs 30,000 in his house so that for any emergency, Rs 1,50,000 is available within few minutes but ICICI scheme also seems additional good solution. Our Rs 1,50,000 is available as emergency cash even to other relatives who are not part of the group .

This is not health insurance product but it is liquidating our investments in the funds and settling hospital bill with sales proceeds.

I will add my view without repeating whatever posted already..
while deciding the amount of insurance one has to keep in mind :
1. To cover the entire outstanding loan of any type.
2. To cover the cost of any ongoing / pending commitment (Education / Marriage of Family members)
3. To cover the cost of family maintenance till any other family member start earning

Naturally, the amount of insurance required will be different for different individual.
Hence any standard approach ( ex: 10 times of your annual income ) to decide the amount to insure may not be appropriate for an individual.
Hence suggested to add the amounts based on the above three heads to decide the amount to insure.
Taking the term insurance through online will be economically cheaper..but decide as per your convenience. But not advisable to go for an insurance only because one of your friends / relatives is an insurance agent. Be firm in this one.
