If return is a "fair" compensation that market offers you for taking risk then to earn high returns you should either take high risk or "beat" market in the sense that it price risk incorrectly. One way to find this incorrect pricing of risk is via deep fundamental analysis of some specific asset or stock because you don't compete with algos but instead with other traders who may be not diligent enough, miss or ignore something, etc.
