Learnt it in a sanskrit class.

The word literally means mixing in the air. But it creates vibrations in the air in its wooden case when the string is played.

don't know on that but violin was made hardly few hundred yrs ago and by then the languages are fully on so why borrow from Sanskrit words. dont see logic..
