Ever had the wish to have a better protect IP address? Here a way to do so:

Hotspot Shield

Works with Mac as well as with Windows. It is easy to install (no special knowledge needed) and it is free.

http://www.hotspotshield.com/

This is a very useful tool for private use. Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your laptop or iPhone and our Internet gateway. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers, hackers, ISPs, from viewing your web browsing activities, instant messages, downloads, credit card information or anything else you send over the network. Hotspot Shield security application is free to download, employs the latest VPN technology, and is easy to install and use.

Intel Anti-Theft Service

The Intel Anti-Theft Service (the Service) lets you lock down your laptop if it is lost or stolen so that no one can use it. It also allows you to create an encrypted folder (known as Secure Data Vault) on your laptop where you can store private files. The following steps help you enable the Service

Email File Attachments You Should Not Open

The best advice concerning email attachments I could ever give is to simply never open them. But that’s unreasonable considering so many people trade files in email these days, be it documents, video clips or the like. There are certain file types I absolutely will not open, or will use an alternative method to open them with.

Here we go: http://webfreebies4u.blogspot.ch/2009/06/dangerous-email-file-attachments-you.html

Malware: DarkComet

The author of DarkComet, one of the more notorious remote administration tools in use today, has said that he is ending development and sales of the tool after finding out that DarkComet was used by the Syrian government in attacks against anti-government activists. http://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/darkcomet-rat-flames-out-070912

And here is the tool, which removes that malware: http://www.phrozensoft.com/dcrem.more

Edit: If you use the XP Antispy tool which was posted in the past, you will get the information, that your system will be infected in the "Security Center". But as the posted removing tool from above will remove any thing which was created from the above developer and or any other possible spywar which is written on a basis like the above Trojan, it not means that you had a bad been infected by the DarkComet Trojan. There are good Trojans to do a job but the removal tool doe's not differ between good and bad. It only searches the programed codes and it's variations on any level and then removes it.

Dear TheMarketKid

Depending on how the software is tested, the results and outcome can be different. So to say this and that software is the best is not the answer. To give you an idea about a testing methodology, read in the following link: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2382605,00.asp There are other ways to test them and that will lead to other results.

An other important aspect is to know what is installed on your computer. Using a crack copy of Windows and then installing Norton is not to recommend. The same for Comodo cleaning essential. But that is each personals choice.

Depending on your system, it even can be a question of how much hard disk space is left as some anti virus software use huge space on the hard disk. Bitdefender 2012 uses nearly one gigabyte and that's a hell of space for an anti virus software.

Kaspersky is a fine choice. An other high quality software is G Data AntiVirus 2012. There are surely other good once there, but never ever one will be perfect, as there are too many new malware are every day created and sent in to the net.

In general: The Antivirus software can only protect you from known malware or codes which have some kind of similarity with old what ever, but not from all new Trojans and what ever is sent every day in to the net. That is the limit from all antivirus software. If you need a system absolutely protected, do never ever connect it to the net.

In the past I tested Bitdefender, Norton and Avast. I use now for quit a while AVG and I am quit satisfied with it.

So my resume: Stay with Kaspersky as this is a good software. :)

Dan has given you a complete answer. To add to it, all the security softwares are as good as the user. IMO, there really is no "The best in category" software as far as antivirus/ antimalware softwares are concerned. Most of these softwares update themselves if you are connected to internet. Most of them ask you before a major upgrade, which you have to. Most of them check your email etc. too. Most of them have a boot-time scan option, which you should use once a month or so... and so on and so forth.

Very important, when your antivirus gives you a warning, take a good look at it and act on it before proceeding to something else. If you insert a pen drive and the antivirus gives you a warning, do not ignore it.

I am using Avast antivirus these days. Earlier, for many years I used AVG. All freeware of course :D Never paid a single paisa for my antivirus.

Hi

Do you some times work in different offices or on different computers and you feel never sure if some body could follow your foot steps you leave on that computers?

Today I have been showed how to solve that problem. The solution is called: PrivaZer.

PrivaZer can be downloaded from any place and it has not to be installed on the computer you just use. You can run it as an exe and it still will do the job. The only problem could be the speed as the tool works very slowly. All the rest I would call a perfect tool to remove all traces we leave on any computer we use. Here we go:

http://www.privazer.com/

When you use your PC (at home or working at your office), go on Internet, watch a video, download, copy/remove files on your PC, install/uninstall or use software, etc
you always leave sensitive traces which :

- makes your PC slower and cluttered
- reduces free space available and
- puts you at risk for a bad consequence :
what you have done could be easily recovered by analyzing your PC
with an expert recovery software or with more advanced techniques.

Then, we decided to develop a new type of cleaning tool to give you the peace of mind that once your data is gone, it is gone for good.

Dan, how exactly does this privazer work ? Is it some form of virtual machine ?

Also, a better idea would be to run ccleaner after your browsing/ computer usage session.
Dear TP

Ccleaner you have to instal the full program. Ccleaner is a nice tool for the laptop or computer you always work with. I also use that on my private system. But when you go to an internet cafe or maybe use somebody else computer, the PrivaZer has an advantage in that situation.

Which one?

The advantage from PrivaZer is that you can download it on the computer you currently work and you not have to install it and that is a fine thing in case you not have any administrator rights on that system. Got the point?

You download the exe to the desktop and when you open it you are asked if you want to run it without installation. It then ask for the last update which you say: Yes.

You then follow it step by step. The tool cleans very good, but not very fast. This happens specially the first time you use it.
