angel broking and cancelled cheque

angel broking has asked to tender a cancelled cheque with sign. on it to open a trading account .when i asked about the purpose the channel partner couldnt reply can u ppl tell me the purpose?

Primary purpose is MICR code of your bank so that dividend is credited to the correct account & also serves as proof of your account with the bank
