accounting for shares in gnucash

#1
hi all

I'm no accountant, but am using the open source software gnucash for formally organising my personal accounts including investments from 2000 onwards.

While it has the ability to update and track indian share and mf prices, I am confused when it comes to entering the numerous mergers - demergers and switchovers which keep taking place.

For example,
1)how should i enter the demerger of the four reliance adag company shares from RIL (and subsequent mergers with Rcap, Rcom etc.) in gnucash reliance share accounts?
2)conversion of us64 bonds from original unit64 holding?
3)
Gnucash has a stock-split wizard and an online user guide which shows entries for selling and purchase of shares / mf, Some tricks suggested for MSMoney http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179585 for similar problems may also work, but I haven't a clue about whether the examples and procedures quoted in there are acceptable to our indian accounting community.

Perhaps some expert user will be able to give some suggestions.

Thanks
