I just happened to see that the forum now has 738 members. I think we should have a monthly graph reflecting number of members joining so that one can monitor the trend. We should also have targets- say 1000 members by December end and 1500 by March end.
Alternatively, seeing the popularity of Creditviolet;s guessing game, let us start another on likely targets in the future. Jokes apart, greater numbers would be indicative of more popularity which creditviolet has talked about in his post on improvement. |

The number has shot up to 743 (+5). However, when one browses all the posts, under the various threads,it is very obvious that a very small percentage of this 743..are only actively participating. All the others are probably silent spectators.
What we require is very active participation by majority of the members. Hope others agree with me on this. Maybe, Traderji should make it mandatory that every member posts a minimum number of times, each month. A post for this purpose, could even be just a "Thanks", in response to an earlier post. This way : 1. We would get to know the other members. 2. I suppose gratitude is something which is very important. When someone takes the time to share his/her ideas, findings - here on the forum...the least others can do is to return a thanks. 3. The dummy members who probably have registered but have never even bothered to login after that, get knocked off. Whats the point in huge dummy numbers. Comments welcome. Shri. |

Thank you for your suggesstion Shri!
You've hit the nail on the head! At least 90% of all regsitered users are lurkers, who probably register themselves just to see the chart attachments. At the moment, I normally delete inactive members (no posts) after waiting for 3 months. I would appreciate all your feedback to make this forum more vibrant and active! |

Wanting to get to know the others in this forum is fine. Wanting to knock off the inactive ones may be fine too. But, teaching some members to be grateful & say thanks; that's a tough one shrees. Best leave personal traits where they belong, in the personal domain. Why ask for "Thanks"from one who does'nt want to say so?

In all such cases the only way to increase membership is to improve content. In the early part of this year, CNBC used to show only an hour of your stocks. Now it has become an hour and a half, both fundamental and technical experts talk on the same scrip and Udyan Mukherjee is there on each and every show. This is because this is the most popular program as it involves the retail investor which collectively forms the largest group.
It is said that man does not live by bread alone. A job is also for money and job satisfaction-I think there should be at least one tip everyday from traderji which incorporates both-a chance to learn and a chance to earn. There could be similar tips for futures and options, fundamentals etc with some regular frequency. You could also have some stockgame on the lines of Bullseye or something else like that. CNBC at least has the advantage of some good looking women. We don’t have that so one has to brush up the content even well. For gaining momentum, it has to appeal to the masses and classes alike. Shree has a point about gratitude. That one can leave to the individual as Jaideep has pointed out- though desirable it is a “trend” that may or maynot find a trend. |

It would be interesting indeed. It would be even more interesting if we could have photos displayed alongside the members name like some of the experts who speak on CNBC but are not live or like photo identity cards. No disrespect implied to women but even the ad guys have conceded that women ads work even where they seem inappropriate.
This came as an afterthought. I had once seen a website where there was some award for a game similar to bullseye presented on CNBC. Perhaps there could be an award like a free newsletter or anything else for winning a game or making a good contribution. Just a thought or rather afterthought. These things work sometimes. Basically one has to differntiate oneself in content or presentation or both. Last edited by sh50; 28th October 2004 at 07:16 PM. |

I have been watching NDTV too this week. They seem to have only women presenting the business news. That is what I meant when I said that we don't have the advantage.

I guess since the target audience for news and business news channel are mostly males, it pays to have women anchoring the news channels.
Probably it has to do with the male attention span! |
