Getting back the shares from the lost certificate is a Pain.

For whatever reasons the rules have been made so tough, it takes years of time and yet sometimes one needs to still keep waiting.

But you may try your luck by doing the following :

1. Quoting the name of the company, Folio number and number of shares, register a complain with the nearest Police Station for the loss of share certificate.

2. Attaching a xerox copy of this Police Complain, send a letter to the Registrar of the company, to the address appearing as Registered Office for the company. If you have a Demat account, give total details of your Demat account, such as Name in which account stands, whether with NSDL or CSDL, Demat account number, Demat code for your broker, name of the Broker, etc. Request for getting the duplicate shares deposited in your Demat account.

3. Company may ask you to fill some forms, get an indemnity bond from you, etc.

4. If you are lucky, you may get the duplicate shares either in Paper form or credited to your Demat account.

5. If not, company may ask you for a lot of more info, which may change from Company to Company, and that is where your luck shall decide the time factor for getting duplicate shares.

Good Luck.
