Successful real-time traders have a far better chance of taking their successful trading techniques and applying them to automated trading systems than successful programmers have of applying their guesses at what a good trading method should look like. You simply don't have the built-up experiences of trading live markets to have the right feel for what works and what doesn't work.

Don't count on Graham and Dodd to make you a fortune, everybody in the market knows the theory, ever wonder why fund managers can't beat the S&P 500? 'Cause they're sheep -- and the sheep get slaughtered. I been in the business since '69. Most of these high paid MBAs from Harvard never make it. You need a system, discipline, good people, no deal junkies, no toreadors, the deal flow burns most people out by 35. Give me PSHs -- poor, smart and hungry. And no feelings. You don't win 'em all, you don't love 'em all, you keep on fighting, and if you need a friend, get a dog, it's trench warfare out there sport... - Gordon Gekko, Wall Street

"When trying to improve as a trader, most people look outward; but the only way to succeed is to look inward. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and being truthful about ourselves is the key to becoming a great trader." - from Dr. Charles B Schaap
"Trading is a journey of self-discovery; success lies in understanding who you are." One of Dr. Charles B Schaap's WizDumbs www.TraderDoc.com "You can’t put into trading what your discipline leaves out." - Dr. Charles B Schaap "Discipline is by far the hardest part of trading. Poor discipline will ruin the best trading plans and the most brilliant assessments of technical analysis. No matter how much you know, no matter how hard you work, you will always be at the mercy of your self-discipline. Traders will face their discipline problems when the pain of losing becomes greater than pain of having to change." - from Dr. Charles B Schaap "The worst trader you’ll ever meet is your ego." - Dr. Charles B Schaap "If it's not in the chart, its only in your mind." - Dr. Charles B Schaap "How you trade is more important than what you trade." - Dr. Charles B Schaap Price never surpirses, only ignorance does." - Candy Schaap |
