FLYING RETURNS

In the heat and excitement of the sensex touching 18000 and 19000 lot of balloons were sent up in the air. Nobody knows what happened to them. I tracked them as they were happily sailing over the Arabian Sea and spoke to the head of the balloons.

“Hey, please return home. Your job is over. You are being recalled” I said.

“What do you mean by asking us to come back? We have not even begun our task. If you didn’t want us to go out and tell every one that we are celebrating, why did you put us up in the first place?

“Look, the celebrations are all over. By going up like this you’ll only be giving a wrong impression. We sent you out because the sensex had zoomed to 18000 and 19000 levels. The sensex has already crashed and the party is over. You have no business to be flying so high now.”

“We do not know how the system works there but once we are up we keep going up unlike your sensex.”

“Please understand those heady days are over for us. If you still want to fly, be reasonable and fly a bit lower around 17000 feet which will properly represent the sentiment at the Dalal Street. You can once again go back when the sensex rises.”

“Look Mister, we are a self respecting lot and do not believe in compromise or coming down like your Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. If the sensex has come down, you are free to send a fresh set of balloons with stones tied around their necks from the top floor of Stock Exchange building so that they will hang around at the lower level. Asking balloons which have gone up to come down is never heard in the history! It hurts our sentiments.”

“I’m sorry I never meant to disrespect your community which always played a key role in all the sensex celebrations. But right now people down there are in the mourning. The traders are reeling under the margin pressure. People have not slept for three days and four nights as they say in hotel parlance. You have got to be with them in this hour of grief and not go about celebrating.”

“You should have thought of all these when you sent us up in the air.”

“Look. When we released you into the vast universe we honestly believed that sky is the limit for the sensex. The industrial production was up and the Corporates were tipped to continue their good showing. The technical analysts told us that we heading towards 20000 and 25000 mark. Foreign funds were flowing like Ganges. Now it is all over, finished and done.”

“Okay we will oblige provided you grant us some alternate form of fun and entertainment.”

“Please be assured there is plenty of entertainment down there. You can listen to the sensational news every hour on Radio FM or watch the P-note drama which is full of deceit and treachery and packed with mystery and suspense. It is a real cloak-and-dagger stuff.”

“One last question. Supposing we come down can you assure us that the next time you will not indulge in any premature celebration?”

“Please be assured that the next time when the sensex goes up we will tell the people to book profits and exit the market instead of sending the balloons up in the air.”
