See these news comes way ahead on Reuters/Bloomberg, and you can choose the option that it comes as a separate notification. Now any nitwit can write a program to parse the notification such that (say)
IIP data has value (x,y) buy NF 2 lots
IIP data hay value(y,z) buy NF 10 lots. Easy money?

I am in contact with a very senior trader, and these models don't work good for even institutions. I mean some people do use them but it's not as cheesy as mentioned here. It's the perception of news on the tape that matters rather than the news itself.

Nikhil.

Consider trading like a sport ... a game of cricket.

The sportsmen (cricketers) do not decide their strategy and play their game based on the commentary from the commentators box. Commentary is for the entertainment and enlightenment of the viewers.

Likewise, the successful traders take their positions based on their inherent skills, research and talent.

Whatever you want to see, hear and feel about the markets ... is already reflected in the charts.

People can be dishonest ... charts never lie.

Was browsing but could not help mention about the America's top trader, made in first 5 months in 2008 as much as his entire profit in 2007, who does news based trading.
If interested, there are many advise from him available on other forum: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showth...63#post2219363

Keith O'Malley, 30
Another grizzled 30-year-old, continues to give Hold Brothers -- and prop trading in general -- a good name. In just the first five months of 2008, O'Malley reportedly matched his entire profits of 2007 (he was said to have made a killing the day BofA announced it was taking over Countrywide), and he is apparently on a pace to make eight *figures this year. Not surprisingly, he's considering starting his own hedge fund.
