You can easily identify the three trends by plotting the 3,13 & 34 SMA on the weekly chart of any stock or commodity. You can read more on this Moving Average Trading System.

The 3 weekly SMA will be a proxy of the short term trend, the 13 weekly SMA a proxy for the medium term trend and the 34 weekly SMA a proxy for the long term trend.
