Default Directional Day Filter - Determine market trend

Hey fellow traders,

This is an amazing way to determine the market trend for any market on an intra-day basis.

http://www.clayburg.com/ddf_home.htm

However, our nse cash market requires only a 20 to 30 minute wait until we determine the trend as its very volatile compared to the US markets. More hills & valleys here than anywhere.

Download this http://www.clayburg.com/JFC_Indicator_Manual.zip for docs. explaining John Clayburg's method in detail.

Pagenotfound,

Thank you for resolving the mystery behind such a nickname, though it was a bit of a damper that it was so casual a reason (laugh).

The Directional Day Filter works only on Tradestation, but the basic concept outlined in the manual is helpful. Shall work on the concept to arrive at some visual clues to use on the Power Indiabulls terminal that I trade through.

Please excuse the delay. I was on a long year-end sabbatical.

Thank you.

trader31339,

Yes, I've tried the clayburg technique and its very effective. "Four Steps to Trading Success" was one of the very first books I read on trading and this procedure is outlined very clearly in the book. I wasn't very sure then on how to put it to use on our terminals. With lots of trial and error however, i made a program to pick up the tick list from my trading terminal (5paisa.com). Take the 1st five minute average and determine what the volume above and below the 5 minute DDF average is. On a trending market this showed accurate results, on active stocks mostly, on a ranging or a sideways market however early warnings can be determined whether or not to put in a trade. The DDF is supposed to be combined with a volume indicater like ROC and a momentum oscillator like RSI to get more accurate signals.
