Trading is self discovery !!!

In a trading career at some point of time one discovers oneself as day trader or swing trader.

I request traders to pen their preferred trading style day trading or swing trading or both

1) Beliefs and reason behind their decision.
2) If any one moved from day trading to swing trading or vice versa and reasons for the same.

Dear jagan,
As you know my trading style..I started swing trading in BNF later I started NF intraday too...IMO swing trading is good for any one as there is no need quick actions in entries etc.but need well tested method and concrete rules for trades so no hickups in entries and placing stops.earlier I traded SAR based later I shifted to SL as SAR based trades given big losses when whips comes though if trend is there there is big wins too :)
intraday also good ..but there is also need tested method and rules ...many times we unable to follow rules in intra as there some times quick actions needed,,,inintra there is no no overnight risk but in swing there is overnight risk.there is suffecient cap need for swing but we can trade intra with under cap too :) hope am explained my views...

This is indian mentality, I have mentioned this before, people just read from here and never give back. Few of them do give back ( but the number is very less)

During my learning career of Trading i feel Day trading more comfortable due to folowing reasonns :-

1.My risk profile suits as a day trader as want to keep my SL/Risk very Small.
2.I m under pressure when we have a position open ,even if its a small qty under accepted risk,so want to be in trade as little time as possible so keeping for a day or week is like carrying a 100 kg load on head, just want my trade to work in 5-20 mins after entry and i m out

3.I m not a compulsive trader ,i trade when i like ,not able to develop a trading system for swing which gives me discretion to enter or exit.

In day trading i feel more comfortable

my two cents...

I always made more money when I did swing trading, but then I was adequately financed. Due to some expenses, my trading capital got less so I shifted to day trading. The biggest pain I felt was when the commodity opened higher in the morning :) I'm saving furiously now to get enough capital for my swing trades. If at all you want to trade swings, then learn to create trend lines and channels. They work best for swing trading. For short term or intra-day, Ichi Moku (3 or 5 min) or just plain Exponential EMA (20) on chart can do.

To see the real potential in swing trading.I'll give you an example (I'm not demeaning day trading btw in this example, I day trade too) . I have a friend whose name is Jang. He is a regular in TradingView community. He lost some 50000 USD in life savings doing day trading (trading experience was nil). He left trading for a while, studied some 37 books on trading. Developed a technique for himself and then started paper trading to try different trading scenarios. Once he started making money in paper trades. He switched to trade in real money. Started with 5400 USD,. did swing and long term trades and converted that into 200000 USD shorting crude since it was 110 USD last year to 42 USD. Hard work always pays. As they say, trading is a marathon not a sprint.

I am unable to day trade because it requires more time and i have my own day job.
In hindsight it seems u can make more money day trading vs swing trading. but .... I have my doubt.
Swing trading requires more money and no leverage but the main demerit is gap up and gap down that can seriously disrupt and create a dent in your account.

In day trading the major issue is trading cost and impact cost. A lot of newbie never understand this.

In day trading u tend to trade more trades where the trading cost quickly eats into profits.
In other words the trading cost is significant in comparison to avg winners.

If you understand the trading cost , impact cost and design your method /edge around it then yes otherwise day trading is 10 times more difficult than swing trading.
